The Dudes Factory [Margin Reports]

The Dudes Factory

A couple of years ago whilst visiting a friends house I noticed a cool hand drawn illustration print framed on her wall. It was a curious cartoon-esque drawing by French illustrator McBess. I was supremely happy to find out that clothing brand The Dudes Factory were being showcased at the Margin Trade show as the crux of their designs are created by the talented McBess. The Dudes Factory were at Margin with the support of Boy Parker, an independent t-shirt brand and also part distributer who brought this brand from Berlin to our cloudy shores.

The Dudes Factory are awesome. Yes, I’m trying to stop using that word but in this case the description is perfect. All the designs I saw at Margin were creations of Mcbess, including a printed plate and a beer mug with the words ‘piss’ written on the front but there are other artists that flourish under the umbrella of The Dudes Factory. Here are some of the other great illustrators : Ugo Gattoni, Genius Inc., Dave The Chimp, Network Awesome, Oblast, Fidia and Carolin Loebbert.

By chatting to the different brands at Margin we gleaned information about them in various ways. The levels of professionalism and the essence of their brand was best shown in their lookbook/catalogue. By this I mean the actual design, style and photography. The Dudes Factory simply nailed theirs with fantastic product and location photography. This should be a benchmark for brands to aspire to.

McBess at Dudes Factory

by Mr Four Fingers on March 16, 2012

McBess - Dudes Factory

I was recently introduced to the world of Mc Bess when visiting a friend who had a print of his on their wall. Afterwards I looked more into this French artist and found a world that seemed familiar and yet so new at the same time.

McBess sells his his t-shirts through, Berlin based, Dudes Factory where you can pick up t-shirt for €29 and they are all printed on American Apparel. There is also some hoodies (€55), custom t-shirt design builder and loads of original art if you are interested. His website does state that the t-shirt are €35, but I have a feeling that this is incorrect.

The Dudes Factory website itself has a load of other great designers, it’s slick and kinda makes me feel jealous that I’m not a part if it! I recommend a visit.

Here’s a story from laFraise that doesn’t leave the North American contingent of the readership feeling left out. Their Seattle-based (IIRC) blogger, J3concepts, has put together a nice round-up of Adobe Illustrator tutorials he’s found on the tutorial website Tutorialized. The tutorials aren’t necessarily geared towards t-shirt design, but they could be pretty helpful if you’re still getting to grips with the features in Illustrator. Heck, these tuts may even turn me into a t-shirt designer!

And don’t forget, you can still get 25% off your order at LaFraise by entering the coupon code LFSALES08 in the checkout.
