The last two
IT Crowd posts of this current series are a bit late because of the Christmas break, and because I didn’t actually expect C4 to broadcast new episodes during the festive season, presuming that they’d have “Top 100 Christmas Moments” or something like that running in the 9pm Friday slot. Unlike my poor show for tee coverage on the
4th episode of this series (which has now had the blanks filled in by readers – love you guys!), I’ve managed to find all of them this time around… huzzah!
The tee at the top of this post is called Filthy Panda and is available from Genki Gear for £15 (mens, womens), or you can get the size XL at Play.com for £10 with free delivery.

The second tee of the week was from someone you see fairly regularly on HYA,
Amorphia Apparel. The t-shirt is obviously a reference to the
Alien franchise, and can be yours for the low price of $12.49 if you
visit this link.

The last tee that Roy wore in episode five was pretty easy to find to be honest, all I needed to do was Google
“Laugh this off twinkletoes” and I found out that this tee was related to a comic produced by 2000AD. Finding somewhere that had the design on sale was rather more troublesome. It isn’t available at
Amazon,
Play, or a number of other smaller retailers, and it is only
available in size small in the official 2000AD shop. I guess it’s entirely possible that they’ll reprint the twinkletoes tee after the exposure it has been given by the show, but I’m afraid that unless you’re a small guy, you’re out of luck.

I have sad news to report friends, after a few good weeks writing about this seasons IT Crowd episodes, I’m afraid this week is a bit of a failure. After spending a while trying to work out where Roy’s tees came from (which is why this post is a few days late compared to usual), I’ve only managed to find one of the three tees.
The first tee worn by Roy in the episode (pic at the top of this post) had a bit of a Japanese feel to it, seeing as it has some Asian looking text on it and what looks like a series of characters beneath it. I don’t even know where I’d start looking for this tee, so I throw myself open to your suggestions.

The second is pretty easy, in theory, it’s a design with a slogan of some kind on it, usually I just have to Google that, and voila, I remain “that guy who find
The IT Crowd shirts.” Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to work out what the slogan says, I’m pretty sure that the final word being said by the character is ‘time’, but that isn’t much help without the rest of it. It has the look of a webcomic style t-shirt, so maybe someone out there might be aware of which webcomic it is, and then I’ll have some breadcrumbs to follow and hunt it down.

I’m glad that it was the last tee in the show that I managed to find, because then you’ll go away from this post thinking “sure, that sucked a bit, but at least he found one,” instead of, “dammit Andy, you’re such a loser, and you keep forgetting to link to things in blog posts!”
The Overlook Hotel, for those of you who arewondering why Roy would be promoting a hotel instead of his usual geek-chic, is the hotel in The Shining. The tee is available from Last Exit to Nowhere and costs £17.50.

Something else I noticed in the show was that Roy appears to be a fan of a blog called “
Why, That’s Delightful” which is of course (of course!) written by the show’s writer and creator Graham Linehan. Except, he was actually
looking at something else.

From watching the show, I had presumed that this weeks tee scavenger hunt for
The IT Crowd was going to be a tough one, but in reality I managed to hunt down both of the t-shirts Roy wore in the episode.
If you haven’t seen the show, you’re probably wondering why there is a topless man at the top of this post. Well, I don’t want to give away the plot, but Roy ends up shirtless for quite lot of the show, which is probably great for those of you that are into not-particularly-toned Irishmen (not that I’m anything to write home about!).

The first tee Roy wore in the episode was this white shirt with a number of small hand drawn graphics on it and the text “a series of tubes” written underneath. Any geek worth their salt, knows what that’s a reference to, and for those of you that don’t, it’s
a quote from corrupt former-Alaskan Senator
Ted Stevens, who was explaining net neutrality to the Senate. The tee is by
Think Geek, costs $9.99 (though as it is on its ‘last chance’, it probably won’t be reprinted, so be quick) and can be
bought here.

Roy then went off being all topless and stuff and we didn’t see him wearing another tee until the closing credits in which he was struggling to wrestle his jacket off an elderly woman. The was a quick shot in which I got a good look at the tee, which had the words Ludovico Technique written on it. The Ludovico Technique is
of course the “fictitious drug-assisted aversion therapy from the novel and film
A Clockwork Orange.” A quick google told me that the tee came from British label
Last Exit To Nowhere, costs £17.50 and can
be purchased here.

Episode 2 was a bit tougher than the season opener because of that damned pixelated Kermit the Frog tee, but I did find it eventually, so all is good. Pretty funny episode too, I loved that when I was in the pub on Sunday watching the Arsenal game (between furious bouts of shopping in Manchester) we came scarily close to having the same football conversation as they did in the show, even though none of the people I was with watch
The IT Crowd.
Anyway, back to the matter at hand, the pixelated/censored Kermit the Frog ‘Witness Protection Program’ t-shirt is made by Chunk, who do lots of retro/pop culture tees, but it isn’t available on their website. I’ve only been able to find it for sale at Urban Outfitters for the rather ludicrous price of £28. I was about to go on a rant about UO and their prices now, but I’ve just noticed that Chunk sell other Witness Protection tees (with characters like Batman & Superman on them) on their own site for £24.95, so I can’t get too annoyed with ‘hipster mecca’ this time around.

Next up was a tee that I recognised immediately, as it is a bit of a classic in the world of indie tees. The t-shirt with the Japanese schoolgirl getting shot on it is an homage to Battle Royale, the fantastic, and fantastically violent Japanese film, and is made by Airside. The tee is also worn by Roy in Channel 4’s
press material for the show. This one will set you back £24.95, which is pretty much par for the course in Britain, sorry Americans.
Buy it here.

The third and final tee that Roy wore on the show was one I already knew about as well, which probably suggests that I do spend a bit too much looking at t-shirts, as I knew that those firefighters were the work of Derek over at
Enclothe. It’s nice to see a friend of the blog getting some great exposure on a TV show watched by millions of people here in the UK. The tee is called 451, which is a reference to
Fahrenheit 451 (I think), and I’m not sure if it was intentional, but the idea of a guy who works in IT wearing a t-shirt about the temperature that paper/books burn at is very cool. It costs $19 and
can be bought here.
