magik city t-shirts and jumpers

From their e-mail:

Our vision is this….

we want to create a community for like minded individuals who are into cool t shirts, graphic design and illustration, street art, independent cinema, punk rock, the situationists, chaos, futurism, civil rights, funk, reggae, propaganda posters, surealism, individual thinking, rebels with a cause, Mexican wrestling….. all things of a youth / counter culture nature.

I think that covers quite a lot of bases, usually I’m not into ‘visions’, I’m into looking at the product and deciding whether what they sell is good or not, people say ‘the proof is in thepudding’ and more often than not they’re correct. In this case however, I felt like it was a pretty decent introduction to Magik City. Their jumpers are priced at £38 each and tees weigh in at £24 (for their own designs, they do sell other people’s good for less than that), I think that in the UK those kind of prices are acceptable, I’m spoiled a bit by all the American brands I look at which are cheaper, but I have to reminds myself that even at £24 it’s easy in the UK to spend much more is you head out onto the high street, so whilst there are many places to buy a cheaper shirt it’s also mighty easy to buy a more expensive shirt.

Also, it’s really nice to see a brand using the term ‘jumper’, Brits saying ‘crewneck’ are probably trying a bit too hard (and I include myself in that group).

A tip ‘o the hat to notcot once again for finding the tee version of this hoodie (though I have also seen it featured on this excellent shirtspotting post), but I figured that since HYA is meant to be a sleeved clothing blog I’d mention the long sleeved version, even if you don’t often find yourself wearing them all that much during these sunny summer months. The tee version is pretty much the same, except the background colour is white and the pack of foxes (I think wolfsrudel means ‘wolf’ but they look more like foxes to me) remain a dark grey, but to me is makes more sense to have a dark base colour because then the print blends in a bit, which adds to the traditional sneakiness of the foxes, although I doubt many animals can maintain their sneakiness when they smell a kill. It’s nice to see Marthuba making use of the funnel collar as well. I guess that me posting an item from a Swiss company is a good way for me to prove that I’m not at all bitter about England not being in Euro 2008… not bitter at all…
