A blog about hoodies & t-shirts, with news from the independent clothing world

When I got the regular weekly newsletter from Threadless I was expecting the usual round of new designs and reprints, but the e-mail just kept going and going. They’ve added some new lines, redesigned the website (though there’s a distinct lack of web 2.0 ajax-ification), a new competition (with a massive amount of prizes), and there’s a sale on (do people ever buy Threadless shirts when they aren’t on sale?) until the 15th of June.

It’ll be interesting to see what people make of these changes, escpecially the Select range, which is more expensive ($25 a pop) than the usual offerings, though they are commissioned designs, Aiko is responsible for one of the designs.

Jungle Life has done a very thorough run-through of all the changes, check it out.

Fame over the Atlantic

Jungle Life posted a real nice profile of Hide Your Arms, so to any new visitors, thanks for stopping by and take a look at the archives, there’s plenty of goodies in there.

Also, for the newbies, don’t take the next few days as being normal Hide Your Arms behaviour, I’m trying my hand at interviewing (yeah, like a real journalist) and that’s going to be split over the next couple of days.

I noticed that Jungle Life posted about some one of a kind hoodies that are available from one of my favourite NY labels, Brooklyn Industries, and when I say favourite, I mean they gave me free clothes.

Much like Jungle Life my favourite from the range is the bike hoodie (zip-up version), the idea of collage hoodies is pretty interesting and the colour layering is very nice, and I can personally recomment their ink, I don’t know what it’s made of, but gosh-darn its soft. There are also 3 squares of fabric stitched on the front (at least I think it is, doesn’t seem like ink on the front).

Costiness=$84.00 from Brooklyn Industries (get a 10% discount with the coupon code “skyline06″ - no quotation marks). And remember, it is one of a kind.

Always different

FOHYA (Friend of HYA, and yes, why abbreviate if you’re going to explain) Shimone from San-Fran-centric blog Jungle Life tipped me off to a cool hoodie by a band. Usually I try and steer clear of band merch since a lot of people wouldn’t want to wander around with a band they’d never heard of on their body, since musical choices do have a tendency to profile the wearer.

But Shimone had no idea what they sounded like, he just liked the hoodie. I do. Forever Changed look pretty generic indie/rock/emo (I’m basing this on the hair), but they do have a few pretty good tracks, and I was particularly impressed with the singers voice. Onto the hoodie…

It’s a surprisingly good design considering its band merch, with a kinda vintage look, invoking images of 70s fairgrounds and carnivals, or am I just indulging my Americana thoughts a bit too much? No idea what it’s printed on but considering the price I can’t imagine it’s AA-esque standard Printed on Jerzee.

Costiness=$25 (not much, but bands need to eat as well as rock), from here.

Shimone from San Francisco-centric blog Jungle Life has been good to Hide Your Arms. Shimone has already sent 2 leads my way, so it was high time for me to ask “what hides your arms?”

I picked up the Verse Rhyme Hoodie in Dijon from Brooklyn Industries. I was nervous about the bold colors at first but when it arrived I saw they were muted to more natural tones for an effective dose of casual. The pictures on the site don’t really do it justice so I’ll fill you in on some additional details.

The interior of the hoodie is completely lined with fleece making it incredibly soft to the touch. The zipper handle spells out the word “Brooklyn” (this you can see from the zoom image on the site) and when zipped all the way up rests cleverly at the neck. The construction is magnificent from top to bottom - everything is made to last - and the sizing is spot on. Because of the colors used it goes with just about everything - making a flashy statement with jeans or a subtle statement under a coat.

Furthermore, it’s available for both men and women. Men in Dijon and Grey, Women in Grey and Eggplant. If you’re looking to go bold I’d go with the Dijon for men and Grey for women or tone it tone with the Grey for men and Eggplant for women.

Brooklyn Industries has quickly become one of my favorite labels for their frequent sales, affordable prices, great use of color, fresh designs, attention to detail, and quality construction.

The Verse Rhyme Hoodie is on sale right now for $48 (men) and $44 (women) and can be purchased for an additional 10% off using the coupon code “Skyline06″.

Brooklyn Industries actually released a new line of clothing on Sunday (yesterday) inspired by Coney Island to coincide with the opening of the park for the season. Look out for another review of Brooklyn Industries in the near future, though I may struggle to better Shimone’s excellent review!
