In the fine line between research and fashion lies the concept for FIGUREGROUND. Motivated to make information gathering transparent, public, and accessible, the Boston design firm PRAUD, developed the idea that information can be displayed and gathered through the use of t-shirts. By placing FIGUREGROUND mapping of major cities on t-shirts, people can become conscious of the metropolitan condition, and compare urban form and growth between cities.

The project began when the team analyzed several surveys ranking world cities that had been conducted by private consulting institutions, banks, and other financial agencies. The whole private ranking process seemed vague in terms of representing their criteria or system for ranking world cities. “We decided that by cross-referencing the surveys to generate a ranking of our own, we could easily categorized the ranking with a color coding that people could wear by means of a colored t-shirt of their city to cast their own vote.” PRAUD

We want people not only to be proud of the cities they live in, and have visited but also to better understand the built environment we have created.

[Andy: Cool concept!]

NYC Men’s Shopping Map

by Andy on April 3, 2008

A blog called A Continuous Lean, which describes itself as “an informal listing of men’s style, wit and wisdom” has released a couple of maps all about where men should shop, eat, and drink in New York. Obviously, I can’t vouch for the quality of the list/map since I haven’t been to New York for almost four years now (sigh), but it might be good for those of you researching a shopping trip to NYC or a decent refresher for you lucky devils that actually live there.
