Owl hoodie by BoyGirlParty

owlhoodie.jpg

I was sure that I’d already written about this, but looking back through the archives it would appear that isn’t the case. I don’t really know what the image is all about, but its seems very wearable in that “its not amazing but it clearly doesn’t suck” kind of way. Considering that Susie Ghahremani (whose surname I still have to copy/paste) is a fairly well-recognised artist, the price point on this hoodie is well below arty expectations.

I got an extremely enthusiastic e-mail from Mare Rosemayer, one half of the duo behind Effin Effigy, and her energy was enough to refocus my attention on blogging, just as I was tempted to leave the desk and go get some shortbread. Offtopic, but if shortbread is, well, short bread, is there such a thing as ‘longbread’, and is ‘mediumbread’ just regular bread? Google offers nothing but terrible jokes on the subject.
effineffigy2300.jpg

I’m not even going to spend time trying to segue from shortbread to Polynesia (the inspiration for the design)… this track jacket looks cool, there seems to be a lot of detail in the design, although the pics are a bit small (one of the few problems I have with the Big Cartel powered stores), the colourway works well, and there’s a bit of print on the collar too which is pretty unusual.

Here’s their blurb:

A superb collab between the infamous Z-Spot (of Strange Famous Records forum fame) and Zagadka- two Z’s in full effect.

Z-Spot has hand illustrated a Polynesian inspired design which is printed atop a cloud of lime and cream. A removable green fabric covered button is yours to place wherever you’d like!

Jacket is 100% cotton in a light weight french terry full zip up with cadet collar.

TvHood by Soliloquy Clothing

I know that in practically every self-improvement article I read says that if you stop watching as much TV then your life will be better… lies. At no point in my life have I ever thought that I watch too much TV, if anything I need to watch more, I’ve never watched any 24, Alias or Sopranos, and just two episodes of Carnivale, which looked pretty amazing. Any other great show that you think might have slipped under my radar?

So, with that in mind, I am philosophically opposed to this hoodie, unless they’re just trying to find a fun way of destroying antiquated TVs…

Rain Drop Hoody by Kachingdesign @ Etsy

It has been far too long since I’ve written about a hoodie with hood-printing, and hot-damn this looks good, I know its really simple and that baby blue on navy is a bit of an obvious colourway, but I totally love it.

Tag Cloud tee by ShirtCity

Blog tag cloud tee by ShirtCity

Tag cloud’s always look a bit messy to me, which is why you won’t be finding one on HYA despite me slowly working my way through the archives adding tags to each post (which over more than 1000 posts is quite a lot of work). But I do think that its a pretty neat idea when it comes to t-shirt design. It would be nice if it were possible to input your web address and then have a robot generate personalised tags for your site automatically and put them onto the tee, but I guess that if you really wanted a personalised version then you could always just make up a tee of your own on one of the many custom t-shirt sites, of which ShirtCity is one.Costiness=€14.95 Link

Have you seen Johnny Cupcakes new site? Hot damn is it looking sweet, with the custom artwork that pops up on each of the site tabs and the cool pics (even though most of them are recycled from the old site). Apparently there’s going to be a lot of treats coming up over the next few days, and a new wave of designs coming in over time, so keep a look out for those.

I’m just going to give you their blurb for the pullover hoodie (the only hoodie they currently sell) because I’m about to go to watch Newcastle vs Levadia Tallinn (that’s ’soccer’ to most of the readers) and I’m getting a bit tight for time:

Jog! Box! Breakdance! And as my friend Mike Murphy say’s, “”chill out!”". You can do all of those, and MORE! In this comfy Johnny Cupcakes hoodie. *Runs a little tighter and is 100% cotton. I reccomend you get 1 size bigger than your normal size.

Yes, it may be a bit simple, but you gotta loves those cupcakes!

If you ‘get’ that title, I love you!

I found out about aujCollections through a post by Josh Spear today, regarding their philanthropic mentoring and support system. Noble project, blah blah blah, what about the hoodie?

I’ll let auj describe it themselves:

Young Love Hoodie
Designed after the young and wealthy romantics. The Young Love Hoodie is meant to be worn with one knee on the ground, one can of paint and one lucky girl. Due to the nipped-in waist and elevated arm-holes, this close-fitting piece hugs tight to the body. The sailing ties laced around the neck and colorful hand-stitching give each piece its unique look.

Right on!

*UPDATE* Anyone wanna see a high-res pic of the hoodie? Mr Auj himself got in touch to send a pic of the item, and it looks even better, there’s a load of little details that I hadn’t noticed earlier, around the cuffs and edges of the pockets, and a nautically themed draw-string on the hood by the looks of things. It’s 1.5MB, but hey, my bandwidth can take it (as long as BoingBing don’t suddenly take an interest in hoodies with boats on them)

I noticed that Jungle Life posted about some one of a kind hoodies that are available from one of my favourite NY labels, Brooklyn Industries, and when I say favourite, I mean they gave me free clothes.

Much like Jungle Life my favourite from the range is the bike hoodie (zip-up version), the idea of collage hoodies is pretty interesting and the colour layering is very nice, and I can personally recomment their ink, I don’t know what it’s made of, but gosh-darn its soft. There are also 3 squares of fabric stitched on the front (at least I think it is, doesn’t seem like ink on the front).

Costiness=$84.00 from Brooklyn Industries (get a 10% discount with the coupon code “skyline06″ - no quotation marks). And remember, it is one of a kind.

It would seem that clothing manufacturer Stussy have fallen upon hard times (awww, sigh), they’ve had to resort to cutting hoodies in half and sewing it back together to make original designs, recycling all the icons that are associated with the brand. Tough times.

I think you’ll agree that its pretty feakin’ sweet, its less than a quarter of the price of the Billionaire Boys Club hoodie that comes from the same shop, and a hell of a lot more interesting. The upside-down print on the left (as we look at it) is a nice touch, though it may make you feel as if you’re wearing packaging material (no? just throwing it out there).

An Imaginary Track Jacket

theimaginaryfoundation

Embroidery on clothing does seem to make it feel a bit more luxurious than regular screen-printing, even if excessive stitchery has a tendency to render the fabric less flexible.

The Imaginary Foundation is a think-tank of free-thinkers who wanted to “eliminate set conventions in favor [sic for Brits] of the humorous,
the abstract and the visionary”. Frankly, I don’t care what they do as long as the merch is nice. It is!

As I alluded (sp?) to earlier, this track jacket has an embroidered logo, which has a pretty funky font, which I assume is abstract and humorous. Its hard to make out from the picture but the there are two colours in the logo, my favourite light blue for ‘the’ and ‘foundation’ and some classic white for ‘imaginary’.

Costiness=$70 (free thought costs) from The Imaginary Foundation.

*Early post today because my classmates and I are going out to celebrate the completion of our dissertations (10,000 words, 1 years research and work) and I don’t trust myself to post after an evenings revelry.*
