photo tee

sosoyeah t-shirt

It’s funny, at the start of the year Imentioned that I thought photo tee prints would probably be popular, and what you I see people printing and wearing now that it’s summer?

I’m not saying that I have the power to create trends, I’m just saying that when I say things stuff happens. Or maybe it’s easy to be slightly ahead of the curve when all you do all day is look at t-shirts. I don’t really understand what’s going on in this shirt, but that doesn’t stop me from liking it.

Downtown LA by Obey at Karmaloop

JOTBDLA DCHAzoom1 Downtown LA by Obey at Karmaloop JOTBDLA DCHAzoom2 Downtown LA by Obey at Karmaloop

How long has it been since I mentioned something from Karmaloop? Obviously, we could find that out pretty easy with a search, or the Karmaloop categorym or just clicking on the Karmaloop tag at the bottom of this post, but that would ruin my rhetorical question pointing out how long it had been since I mentioned the streetwear powerhouse. Ahhh, overanalysing stuff never ruins it.

Seriously, how ridiculously large is L.A. and how hard is it to get around when you don’t have a car? And how much do you get burned when you walk around LA without sunscreen on for a day? The answer to all those questions, as I found when I was there, is a lot.

quolomo gorilli 15a 480x171 More hot asian women on t shirts = genius!

Sometimes I have to wonder how I get put onto certain mailing lists (the amount of hip hop mixtapes I get sent is astounding), but the niche market of “photo t-shirts with hot asian women on them” is pretty unexpected. It’s also unexpected that there is more than one brand that does this regularly in their collections. I would say this though, once you get past the boobs and look at the regular stuff in Quolomo’s site, it’s actually pretty good.

quolomo gorilli 8a More hot asian women on t shirts = genius!

GORILLI introduces QUOLOMO to Europe

QUOLOMO is a t-shirt, apparel and lifestyle project from Tokyo. Producing clothing under the central theme: “Design Japanese Culture,” QUOLOMO creations and collaborations draw inspiration from the array of sub-cultures, artists, pop-culture personalities and animated characters of Japan. In traditional Japanese language, QUOLOMO means “wear”. When producing t-shirts and apparel, QUOLOMO aims to create wearable garments dedicated to the time tested sensibilities and standards of quality, artistry and originality.

The first delivery of the QUOLOMO collection is now available in the Gorilli Concept Store in Rotterdam (Netherlands) and also online in the Gorilli Webshop. As always in limited quantities only. Second delivery will follow soon. So stay tuned.

Also, I don’t think anyone has ever sent me an e-mail with 27 attachments on it, but I’m going to put them all in the gallery anyway after a /more, so click on through for more pics.

A Photee by 410BC [Reviews]

I don’t want to be a tease with this shirt, so I’m going to lead with this; I don’t think this shirt is actually for sale anymore, or perhaps it was never available, or maybe it is going to be released in the future, all I know is that it is not available in their store at the time of writing this post. The tee arrived in the post a couple of weeks ago, but since I’ve had this whole France thing going on I haven’t had much time to clear the backlog of tees to review, so I’m really sorry if it was for sale when I first received the tee, but maybe if you really, really like it, and enough of you ask for a reprint the 410BC crew will print a few off, or maybe not since their latest collection of tees has gone a in a different, wolf-loving direction.

I really like the idea of tee designs that are based upon photographs, but only when they’re done ‘right’. By ‘right’, I mean pretty much the way 410BC have executed this tee, not an iron-on of a poorly taken photo being worn by a group of guys drunkenly ambling through Prague on a stag weekend. Admittedly, I think that 410BC’s I-Fell Tower tee works better than this New York based one, but this one works pretty well too. It’s kind of like a New York souvenir shirt, but instead of having night images of well manicured landmarks, we’re treated to seeing the reality of New York.

As I alluded to in the above paragraph, it is pretty easy for a photo-tee (photee?) to go very wrong when it comes to quality, but since the photo used by 410BC is black and white they are able to use a regular printing process (possibly with water-based ink, you can’t feel the print on the tee), so they’ve managed to avoid those potential problems. I’m not entirely sure what the stock tee is that they’re using since they have their own hang tag in the back of the tee, but like a wise man once said, if it looks like American Apparel, it’s cut like American Apparel, and it feels like American Apparel, it may very well be American Apparel.

I can’t really imagine people actually wearing this stuff, although Asian streetwear culture is vastly different to ours, so they’re probably all over it, but for some reason I kind of admire the audacity of a brand for putting bikini-clad models on to t-shirts. Here’s the blurb for the top tee:

On October 3rd, Limited Edt will release a Singapore exclusive tee featuring Yuko Ishida standing inside the infamous “Vault.” Since 2005, Limited Edt’s appointment-only Vault has housed some of the rarest sneakers in the world, on display for the people of Singapore and visitors from around the globe.

The tee features a white bikini clad Yuko holding a pair of the cult-classic Air max 90 infrareds and wearing a pair of Limited Edt’s own New Balance 577 collabos.

This tee will be available exclusively in Singapore on October 3rd, at the following Limited Edt locations: Limited Edt Vault, Limited Edt Queensway, LE2 and Limited Edt Peninsula.

I did a little googling around to find out who the woman on the shirts was (Yuko Ishida), and aside from her being a ‘gravure model’ (whatever that is) and singer, I found a blog post in which she’s wearing a bra made up of rice bowls, which is about as sexy as it sounds!
