A blog about hoodies & t-shirts, with news from the independent clothing world

As we’ve established in the past, I am not cool, so its totally fine that I’ve never heard of Belgian indie pop band Girls in Hawaii, and whilst I still haven’t checked on their music, I do like what they’ve helped to do to this t-shirt.

Hand Drawn Map Tee [Flickr Finds]

Superlocal must be one of the best people on Flickr for finding great tees in public, Singapore must be filled with awesome t-shirt shops.

I really hope that Google tranlsated that correctly, I wouldn’t want to be insulting any Brazilians/Portuguese out there.

Camiseteria have released six great new designs, so check them out in the gallery and then head on over to their site to put your language skills to the test.

*Thanks to Fabio from Camiseteria for re-writing the title for me so that it made sense!

In the UK it feels like every day we get another story about economic doom and gloom, so Terratag are attempting to buck that trend with this bold and bright (as in, fluorescent) tee that tells us that everything is going to be alright at some point in the future. Phew, I was getting worried for a minute there.

Johnny Cupcakes Bat-inspired designs

Johnny Cupcakes, never one to miss a trick, sent out a newsletter pointing out that if you want to be the coolest kid waiting in line for The Dark Knight then the above tees may well be what you’re after. I think that these designs were released last month with the new line.If you’re after a bit more Dark Knight japery, check out the avatar of pretty much anyone over at Emptees, they’ve all gone Joker crazy!

Human Nature by kakolak @ Scribtee Weird City by Malota @ scribtee

Scribtee, the design competition offshoot of ShirtCity, have dropped a couple of new designs on us, and guess what? They’re both good!

The top tee is called ‘Human Nature‘ and is by an artist called kakolak (read an interview here), and the lower pic has ‘Weird City‘ on it, which was designed my malota. Both are printed on American Apparel tees and available for €22 now.

LaFraise x Vice Magazine winner: Typography is not a game LaFraise x Vice Magazine winner: Typography is not a game

Here’s another tee for all the “kinda looks like pixel art but it isn’t, its just Lego from an isometric perspective” fans out there. Isn’t it cool how this is a tee about typography, but it uses a font that you can’t use (right, you wouldn’t be able to type with that, would you?). Its probably worth noting, for the cool points alone, that this tee is part of the competition series that LaFraise conducted with Vice Magazine.

I look at this hoodie and all I can think about is Zach Morris and his hilariously large mobile phone. How is it even possible that something so retro can look so fresh? I’ve been saying the phrase “what’s old is new again” quite a lot recently, maybe I might actually be right this time?

Lost in the City by Whiff Focker @ LaFraise

Considering that I have a massive eBoy poster (incidentally, May 9th - June 30th, they’re exhibiting @ Concrete Hermit) on the wall behind my laptop, I was more than a little bit excited seeing a pixel art style t-shirt being a winner in the Vice Magazine x LaFraise competition.

Striclty speaking, it isn’t all that pixelly, but the style is certainly suggestive of it, and that’s good enough for me. Beyond that, Whiff Focker has come up with a pretty stunning design and paired it up with a really interesting colour palette. If you want to see the design as a whole (the LaFraise product pics are cool, but you can’t really grasp the feel of the design), then here’s a link to a nice big jpeg that shows you the whole thing.

In other LaFraise news, Jouni, their EU blogger, has announced that he’ll be leaving that post soon (perhaps today, I can’t remember), I haven’t actually had any direct contact with him, but he always made getting LaFraise news a lot more interesting and its a pity to see him go.

I went to Helsinki for an afternoon once (I get around, don’t I?) and all I remember is a big church, eating reindeer carbonara, buying a reindeer rug that fell apart a few months later, and becoming sea sick… on land. We were on a cruise and when we got off at Helsinki I felt as if I was still on the boat, as if the ground was swaying from side to side like the ship was on the ocean, a very strange feeling indeed, and not one I’d want to repeat. Blurb by Mod Cloth:

Like something a Nordic pop star would wear, this printed hoodie by Heatherette has the plushest, richest faux-fur lining in the hood. Big pom poms, grey ribbed trim at the seams, and double breasted button detail add to the surprisingly cozy superstar appeal.

So, to those of you that have e-mailed me about faux-fur in the past, here you go.
