A blog about hoodies & t-shirts, with news from the independent clothing world

If I were to run a sale on my theoretical t-shirt site, I probably wouldn’t say that I’m having a ‘midnight madness’ sale and then actually have it run for an entire day, which, may I remind you, includes more time than just midnight. Why not just give this sale a name that makes sense? Maybe if all the tees were $12 instead of $13 it would make sense since it would relate to 12 o’clock, but I just don’t see why they have this theme. I know it simply doesn’t matter what they call the sale, it just matters that they’re having a sale with some cheap tees, but when you see as many press releases and sales as I do the stupid little things can really get to you.

Busted Tees Midnight Madness Sale, Coming June 23rd

Mike Norman thinks that Barack Obama looks like a monkey…

I’ve just realised that none of my tee blogging brethren have gone near this story, which probably means I should steer clear too, but if its on a t-shirt and its news then I think I should at the very least alert you to its presence. Basically, a tavern owner in Georgia thought it was a good idea to produce a t-shirt which had Curious George, a cartoon chimp for those of you that are unaware, on it with the slogan “Obama in ‘08″ written underneath. The Bar owner, Mike Norman, claims that he doesn’t mean any offence with the t-shirts, and that he just thought that the monkey and Senator Obama looked alike. He’s still selling the t-shirts (who on Earth would buy one?), but the owners of Curious George (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt) aren’t particularly happy about their image being used in such a way, so whilst free speech ensures this guy can create such a t-shirt, copyright law will probably mean that he can’t do so for very long.

Headphones by new skool @ Fabric8

Big headphones around the neck that has been done countless times by countless designers, and whilst I love it as a design concept, I don’t think I’ve ever seen one example that does it exactly how I’d like to see it. There always seems to be too much compromise. Take the hoodie above for example, headphones don’t get worn that low on a person, if they were, they’d fall to the ground, why not actually print something that is faithful to what the image would actually look like? Perhaps when you do that it doesn’t looks far too messy and people can’t tell that its headphones, but I’d like to see someone try and put some reality into the illusion.Costiness=$50 Link

To the bar!

I’ve decided not to do posting on the weekend (unless something REALLY catches my eye), like all the big pro-blogs do, because this will be a big pro-blog, someday. So that’s your lot for this week, I’ll leave with this thought.

Two buttons is enough, if you’re inclined to put pin badges on your clothes, bags, anything really, two is enough, any more than that and you look like you collect them, not accessorise with them. Covering your entire backpack with buttons basically tells people that they can go in your bag and steal your Avril Lavigne tickets. By all means have a collection that you can mix and match with, just be careful not to go overboard with it.

That said, I’m no fashionista, I just say what I see.
