Jugrnaut and Chip Tha Ripper Collaboration T-Shirt

JGRNTxCHIP ToonWifeys tee b1 480x432 Chip Tune Collaboration T Shirt by Jugrnaut and Chip Tha Ripper

I happened to stumble across this shirt last week while browsing online.  Jugrnaut is a streetwear clothing brand and retail store out of Chicago, IL.  While clicking to check out their t-shirts, this gem popped out at me and I couldn’t stop laughing.  Ignoring the fact that I couldn’t figure out the black male cartoon character at first, UNTIL I googled Chip Tha Ripper . He is a music artist who has performed with such performers as Kid Cudi.  Apparently a lot of his albums contain cartoon work of him and thus Jugrnaut collaborated with him (and allegedly has several times before) to bring you this t-shirt.

Why was I laughing? Well come on, if you were born in the 80′s then you definitely grew up watching The Jetson’s, Flintstones, Simpsons, etc, etc.  I don’t know why it tickled me so much but seeing all these female cartoon characters together from my childhood on a t-shirt and after figuring out who Chip was; this design got 100 times funnier.  Especially the fact that I don’t think Jane Jetson would fall for a gansta rapper smoking a doobie.  I mean I can’t even imagine Chip Tha Ripper flying around Orbit City and sneaking into the SkyPad Apartments past Rosey.  Personally I think he’s more Judy’s type.

Cost = $34.00    Buy it at Jugrnaut

Sometimes I let an e-mail sit in my inbox saying to myself “I’ll check it tomorrow” and invariably that tomorrow goes on to the next day and the next, and usually it’s just another crappy t-shirt company that has a lot of hopes and no talent or drive to back it up, but every so often it’s a collection of fantastic tees like the ones above and I feel a bit stupid for not checking out the site sooner.

Clearly a fantastic amount of work has gone into creating these shirts at Pop Chart Lab, I’m pretty blown away by the designs showing the ‘grand taxonomy of rap names’ and ‘the very many types of beer’. They’re still all available (howe bad would i have been if they’d sold out before I wrote about them?) and they’re $18-20 each.

Rap Music Hides My Hipster

by Umang on July 12, 2011

rap dave lizzy Rap Music Hides My Hipster
One thing that comes to mind is the integration of a hipster to an urban neighborhood undergoing gentrification.

Imagine a hipster digging through his crate of old CDs, past the Beck single, “Loser” and finding Public Enemy’s “Fear of a Black Planet”. He converts the CD to MP3s, dump them on his iPhone, newly equiped with Dr. Dres’s “Beats” headphones, passes by the local Bodega and grab a 40oz of Pabst Blue Ribbon, makes sure to wrap it in a brown paper bag, all while rocking this t-shirt. If he makes it down the block, on a hot summer night and refrains from moistening his pants he should be good to call himself “hood” and shed the hipster shadow.

From the awesome folks at Print Liberation.

Am I the only one who feels vaguely offended by the gesture that attractive lady is making?

We all know I am no authority on hip hop or rap, but if I like a tee then I like a tee, and this design from Headline Shirts is pretty cool.

Can you imagine if I wore this? The levels of irony would be so dangerously high that if I started listening to Journey at the same time I’m pretty sure the world would kerplode.
