hhv.de is seemingly some sort of music shop based in Berlin that does a lot of tees (2970, to be exact). Berlin’s a long way to go to buy a t-shirt, but thanks to the joys of the internet (uhhh duhhhh) you can actually get a lot of pretty good designs for relatively little money.

It’s worth noting that this isn’t a single label; rather, it seems a repository for a whole bunch of different labels. Some are big (Zoo York, Vans) and some are small. Similarly, there’s a lot of dross on the site – or rather, a lot of stuff that you can get elsewhere (I’m talking about band t-shirts here). But then there are also some absolutely stunning shirts that I’ve not seen many other places. Of course, everyone’s tastes are different, but there are seven that I whacked right into the basket in the vain hope that €144.48 + shipping would magically appear in my bank account (sadly, it didn’t). Of those, I’ve picked out a top four for you to take a gander at in case you have more money than me.

Above at the top is a shirt by Adam Hayes for 2K by Gingham, and I love the old-fashioned style text that’s on it. It’s the sort of thing you’d see on a 1950s poster for a speakeasy (I’m aware that’s historically impossible). For a smidgen under €14 it could be yours.

22 hhv.de: a German record store?Another 2K by Gingham t-shirt, this is a mix of the geekiness of Threadless with the fashionable sort of tees you see people wearing in clubs. This one’s a little more at €16.95.

32 hhv.de: a German record store?

I wish I had €34.95 for this t-shirt – I really do. I love the typography on this, and the morose message that it gives off. It’s the sort of thing that people who live for Facebook will find amazingly cool from a distance, before realising what it says up close.

4 hhv.de: a German record store?

This is an elegant, springtime shirt from Sixpack France x Museum Studio, which is the costliest of the lot at €39.95 – but then again, it’s only been on the online store for six days. I like the colours and the gentle rose detail, and I think it’s the sort of thing which isn’t quite a brash statement t-shirt, but also isn’t your boring normal tee either.

Anyway, these is just the things I personally like. You really need to head on over yourself and take a look to find out.

    Is this t-shirt worth $10,000?

    led zeppelin knebworth house t-shirt

    My apologies for the small picture, but it was all the source had. That Led Zeppelin at Knebworth t-shirt sold last week for a whopping $10,000. As will have probably guessed, it is a rare t-shirt, in fact, it is apparently the rarest of all Led Zeppelin t-shirts, as it was only printed for people that had backstage passes to Led Zeppelin’s 1979 Knebworth House gigs. I can see how it would be rare, who would hold onto a t-shirt from a gig for more than 30 years and keep it in good condition (this shirt was bought by a tee dealer from the printers that made them, so I assume it was in good condition), but does that really make it worth that much money?

    As much as I love my own stuff, I just don’t see someone paying $10,000 for anything from the HYA store in 30 years.

      I’d like to think that HYA is one of the few places on the internet where I can switch between writing about environmental issues in one post and then move onto douchebags and their popped collars in the next.

      On April 29, 2008 our boy Rex Vanderwoodsen set the Planet Douche World Record for the most popped collars worn at the same time by an individual. He did wear 23 Attus polos, popped all 23 collars, and he did take home the GOLDEN PIG AWARD.

      I’m presuming that this isn’t actually a world record, but its still a funny little promo for their polos. Karl over at Tcritic is offering a $100 Threadless gift certificate to anyone that can beat the mark of 23, check out this blog post for more details and get your entries in quick since the competition will probably be closing today.

        Lists: Ten Great Videos About T-shirts

        After seeing rather a lot of sub-par t-shirt videos being posted to YouTube (and therefore my new baby, TeeBurst), I felt that I needed to raise my spirits by finding some videos that were actually worth a few minutes of your time.


        1. Justice – D.A.N.C.E: I thought I’d kick off the list with one of my favourite French DJ duos of the moment, Justice, and their amazing music video for D.A.N.C.E which features loads of clever CGI’d tees. I’m amazed that no one has ever released these designs as I’m sure they’d be popular with more than just fans of Justice.

        2. The Most T-shirts Ever Worn At Once: There are two videos on YouTube claiming to hold the record for most t-shirts ever worn, one posted by an American radio station, and this one posted by the Guinness Book of World Records… I know who I’m going with (that and the 155 tees to 244 tees discrepancy).

        3. How To Fold A T-Shirt: I think this video is proof that I am so manly, I actually need to watch a video to teach me how to fold a shirt! In reality I actually watched it several times before nailing the technique completely, and it has turned into a great space saver for my ever-growing collection of t-shirts.

        4. How to Screenprint T-Shirts by Make Magazine: There are lots of tutorials out there showing you how to make your own t-shirts, but Make‘s video (with some help from Etsy) is a bit more professional than most out there.

        5. How To Stencil Your Own T-Shirts: If you want to design your own tees but aren’t ready to take the leap into screenprinting, the Threadbanger crew have you well covered with this great instructional video about how to stencil your own t-shirts.

        6. The human flipbook: Already HYA featured, but still worth another viewing. How this is promotion for a sandwich shop I don’t know, but it is cool!

        7. Connected Ventures Lip Dub: I’m stretching a bit with this one, but I couldn’t really have a list of videos without putting in a lip dub, could I? Here, the Connected Ventures crew (the people behind BustedTees and defunker & some other non-tee related sites) lip dub to HarveyDanger’s “Flagpole Sitta,” and trust me, it’s awesome, and kinda makes me wish that I worked in a cool office.

        8. Spreadshirt’s Hands Per Piece: A very, very cool video from the Spreadshirt team showing just how many people are involved with the production of a tee from Spreadshirt. Its reassuring to see how much effort goes into the creation of one of their garments, considering when people usually think of POD services they imagine them to be a rather soulless process.

        9. T-Shirt Folding Machine: If #3 was too much effort for you then this t-shirt folding machine might be for you (providing you aren’t too lazy to make one). This is a pretty cool promo by All-Tribes too.

        10. Origami T-Shirt: Here’s a video showing you how to make an origami t-shirt out of a £5 note. May I suggest that you try this with a regular piece of paper first?Do you know of any other cool t-shirt related videos? Post ‘em if you got ‘em.
