ReThink Clothing Shutting Down, dammit.

by Andy on May 13, 2011

rethink clothing closure

I thought that something might be up when ReThink cancelled their advertising on HYA (spaces still available!) a few days ago, but I was still surprised to hear the ReThink Clothing will be shutting down.

Andy hasn’t disclosed the reasons why he’s shutting the business after four years of selling t-shirts designed by college artists, but judging by his farewell blog post he’s looking at the positive side of things about the sudden closure, which may suggest that he already has something else in the pipeline. I’ll be sad to see them go because the shirts were consistently good, and I was always happy to receive an e-mail from Andy.

To clear out stock he has put all the remaing tees on sale, some as low as $5, most at $10, and the most recent design at a still very reasonable $15. I don’t know how long the store will remain operational so if you want to pick something up do it quickly because this is your last chance to pick up these designs anywhere.

The Most Bad Ass Otter Is Back

by Andy on April 11, 2011

Otter-tude has always been one of my favorite shirts. When I decided to print it, it wasn’t a calculated business decision. I just loved the art and wanted the shirt. Little did I know that would be one of my best decisions in running Rethink.

I’ve been recently wanting to bring back the old designs and came up with the Super Senior Series, a last chance for old designs to get a new colorway and a limited release.

Otter-tude naturally came up first and is now #1 in that series. It features a AA shirt, soft and vibrant inks, a printed neck/size tag and best of all the most bad ass otter around.

Enjoy and remember this is limited so act quick!

[Andy: Thanks for the submission Andy!]

rethink clothing coupon code

I would assume that if you’re in the US that the delivery date hasn’t yet passed for you to pick up some discounted goods from ReThink Clothing, and if you aren’t in the US then at least you’ll be able to get something nice for after the holiday period.

liquid courage beer t-shirt

I’m thinking that my next epic list of t-shirts should be to do with beer and/or drinking, not because I particularly like them (though the above shirt has quite a lot of charm), but because I know there’s a huge market out there, Christmas is coming up, and those link posts help to put food on the table. I’m being honest and upfront with you guys about this, because I know you’d raise an eyebrow if I put up a list of crappy tees that I’d never post about on their own, so I’m on the hunt for really good beer-related tees that wouldn’t necessarily be worn by frat guys, and if you can point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated. I’ve noticed that a lot of American craft breweries seem to have surprisingly good shirts, so if you know of any let me know and maybe we can change the public’s perception of beer tees a bit.

gnome t-shirt

I really dig (yes, dig) the style of this shirt, something about the way it’s drawn makes me happy. Andy from ReThink has described this shirt as a return to the more fun side of ReThink, and I can see what he means, it’s not like their previous releases have been dark, but there’s something attractive about the simplicity of the linework that I like.

Camera Crackup by ReThink Clothing

camera t-shirt

Personally, I’d be happier to see this tee without the ReThink text on the upper left, but the level of branding could be much worse, and I know that brands needs to get their name out there, and yes, I’m a total hypocrite about these things.

typewriter t-shirt

It’s always fun to look back in the past and see old school technology. It’s even better when the artists I work with do it for me and then make it an awesome piece of art. This CMYK style design is printed amazingly and is sure to impress when worn out to the bar or that 7am class.

I guess that the concept behind this design is that this is some kind of magical typewriter that can write with colours, perhaps you wrote “elephant” on a piece of paper and the typewriter would magically transform it into some wonderful, colourful animal… or maybe it just looks cool.

Water the Summer Sky by ReThink Clothing

Post image for Water the Summer Sky by ReThink Clothing

I think that I’d actually like this print more if it didn’t have the sprinkler on it, becuase I love that big black and blue splash across the chest. However, if you remove that then the tee makes no sense, and clearly having the sprinkler is part as a simple line-drawing is part of the concept… but still.

I’m also a big fan of this colourway, it’s available on printed on silver, but I’m really digging the mint.

ATDPfull600

Usually I’m not a fan of driving in the rain, it shouldn’t really make a difference to you since you’re inside a vehicle and dry, but I just don’t like it. On the drive back from France we didn’t have a drop of rain at all, which seems like a good thing, until you realise that rain is a really good way to help clean the 1000+ miles of bugs that splattered themselves onto the windscreen.

meteorheather500full

Outer space has and always will be fascinating and full of mystery. With the discovery of dark matter, black holes, new galaxies and a ton of cool stuff these mysteries are unraveled. This shirt might also help unravel one more mystery, how astronauts (maybe some cosmonauts) stay clean in the final frontier.

I don’t really understand what’s going on with this tee, but I know it’s cool.

2 new designs from ReThink Clothing

500zapperorange greybombfull500 zapperhigh500 500fullresblue

I wonder how much time ReThink spent trying to think up a different ‘gun that isn’t really a gun’ that they could put on a t-shirt after the success of their super soaker t-shirt? I can hardly blame them, it’s a winning formula, any guesses on what we’ll be seeing next?

The bomb tee is good, it’s not mind-blowing (jiminy Christmas I love puns), but at least it shows some imagination compared to a lot of bomb tees. Right, now I’m off to dig out my NES and play some Duck Hunt.

They’re all $19.99 a pop printed on American Apparel blanks, and can be found in the ReThink Store.

Fortune Cookie by ReThink Clothing

by Andy on April 29, 2009

rethinkpromofortune2

I don’t believe in fortune cookies whatsoever, they’re random pieces of paper that are stuffed into a cookie you otherwise wouldn’t eat, and they all have positive messages on them, if they were all right, we wouldn’t have anything to worry about because everything would be awesome. That’s the rational part, the irrational part is that I keep every single fortune I get from the Chinese takeout, and since for the past three months I’ve lived within 2 blocks of a good takeout place (though Chinatown has it beat, American-Chinese food is a bit far away from the authentic stuff for my tastes), I’ve amassed quite a few. I don’t know why I’m keeping them, I just do. Here’s one I just found lying around the apartment: “you will have a bright future.” Well, that’s reassuring, because I haven’t got a clue what I’m going to do when I get back to Britain, so it’s good to know it’s already mapped out for me.

Otter-tude by ReThink Clothing

In the e-mail I got for this tee, ReThink told me that this designs was a mashup of “otter and badass,” I’d be pretty hard pressed to disagree with them. The halftone printing looks great too.

ReThink Clothing’s 30% off Holiday Sale

by Andy on December 4, 2008

Rethink Clothing, the people who made that rather popular Super Soaker t-shirt, amongst other great designs (that can be seen in the gallery), have got a 30% off sale running until December 15th. Just use the coupon code winter to get the discount.

Something which is very cool about ReThink is that they only charge $3 to ship your whole order if you live in the US, and even better, just $6 for the rest of us.

City Scape by ReThink Clothing

by Andy on October 13, 2008

ReThink, who have also designed a rather popular Super Soaker design that did the rounds a while back, have released this beautiful new tee which has a cityscape and some paint splashes on it, its a complete departure from their previous designs, but I really like it.

Quicktees: Rethink Clothing

by Andy on March 23, 2008

A guy called Andy e-mailed me (its a pretty common name, but it always feels a bit weird when that happens) to let me know about his new tee company, Rethink Clothing. Since everyone has an angle nowadays, here’s Andy’s; “The premise is I only sell shirts designed by college kids and in return throw them some of the profits.” Neato my same-name-brother, I can dig it!

Andy wrote up a quick blurb for us too, clearly letting people know about how short the quicktee posts are encourages them to do my work for me:

“ReThink clothing started out in late 2007 after I was stressed during
school and looking for something that would lighten my spirits.
Rethink is really about breaking away and making designs that appeal
to a wide range of buyers. We go from artsy to robots so the style is
varied. The real main thing though is that the art comes from only
college kids. I believe college kids spend too much money on clothes
that they see no profit from. Rethink switches it up gives college
kids a chance to make their own style of clothes and see some profit
in return. This is the first line out and I hope to add at least one
more girl shirt and one more guy’s shirt in the next month.”
