Android Stole My Ride by The Dept.

by Andy on June 29, 2009

viper_blk

A little bit late for my 101 Robot Tees post I guess, but the Dept. have put together a really solid group of designs largely based on robots… and we all love robot tees, right?

Fair enough, the 79′ Battlestar Galactica MK-1 Viper on the tee isn’t a robot, but it’s being driven/flown/piloted by an android, so it’s totally a robot tee!

101 Robot T-Shirts [Lists]

by Andy on June 19, 2009

100robottees1

With the release of what is almost certain to be the greatest movie of all time today in the UK and across the world over the next week, I thought it would be an excellent opportunity for me to hunt down some robot t-shirts, especially as the previous robot-themed lists have are two of Hide Your Arm’s most popular articles to date. I must admit that I was a total child for the first Transformers live-action movie, even though I realise that in many, many ways it is utterly terrible, but I still smiled throughout the whole thing because it was goddamn awesome. Robots, fighting, and Megan Fox, what more could I possibly want? I’m pretty sure that you could rob my house whilst that film is on TV and I’d only realise you were doing it once you unplugged the Blu-Ray player. I guess you could say I’m a little excited about Revenge of the Fallen being released, which is why I went a little robot crazy and compiled this huge robot tee loving list. Enjoy!

*Update* If you’re in the mood for lists of t-shirts, check out this post: The Ultimate List of T-Shirt Lists!

This post took around 15 hours to compile, if you could take a few seconds to tweet about the post, stumble it, bookmark it on delicious, digg it, possibly even mention it in a blog post, I would be incredibly grateful, not only because it would send more visitors to my site, but also because it would help to support the brands featured, many of whom are pretty small and need all the exposure they can get.

Robotic Tacos by Foe Paws Apparel

by Andy on June 16, 2009

robotictacos_detail robotictacos_art

I’d be willing to guess that more than a few of you regular readers right now got your first taste of HYA when you read either of my big lists of robot t-shirts, and with the new Transformers movie coming out at the weekend (aka the movie that makes me as giddy with excitement as a 12 year-old at a Jonas Brothers concert), don’t be surprised if a new list as epic as the film pops up on HYA over the next few days.

To tide you over until then, enjoy these robotic tacos. This tee is only available for a limited amount of time, so much like actual tacos, it’s better to get ‘em while they’re hot.

Robot Rock by Chop Shop

by Andy on June 4, 2009

3512123124_287e940858_o

As I’ve been wading my way through the backlog in Google Reader I’ve seen this tee come up a number of times (I loved Micah’s re-naming of the design as ‘Gundam Calling’), so you’ll have to forgive me for covering old ground, but with a tee this cool I’m sure you’ll let it slide.

For those of you that are wondering what all the fuss is about, the design is a modern take (futuristic, even) on The Clash’s iconic album cover for their 1979 LP London Calling. Except instead of a person smashing their guitar, it’s a robot, which is way more badass.

A couple of new shirts from Enclothe

by Andy on March 20, 2009

nouv_web lantern

Derek has dropped a couple of new tees and they live up to his usually high standard. However I feel that I must be critical of one thing, one of these tees has the totally awesome name of Nouveau Mechanica, and the other is called Red Lantern… not good enough!

Mighty Robot by rimo-to

by Andy on December 18, 2008

Putting a toy robot onto a tee is hardly a new idea, but this tee from rimo-to has taken it, and perhaps unintentionally put a really sinister looking robot onto this design. I think it’s something about the face, it doesn’t look pissed off, but you know it wants to do something, right?

I don’t think that robot t-shirts get much more robot-y than the ones from Terratag. They seem to achieve the zenith of geekdom, there are loads of store dedicated to mecha figures in Akihabara, Tokyo, so they must be geeky, and yet, Terratag manage to flip the potentially otaku subject matter around and make some really cool shirts out of them.

Their latest designs are a couple of tees and a hoodie (all of which can be found in the gallery), created in collaboration with an Indonesian artist called Machine 56.

Got Ya Nose! by A Better Tomorrow

by Andy on November 17, 2008

I guess robots are like buses, by which I don’t mean that they’re both made of metal, I’m referring to the old adage that you wait ages for one and then two turn up. I think I prefer the one I posted earlier today from laFraise, but A Better Tomorrow‘s effort is still pretty cool, and genuinely funny.

LaFraise & Their Beautiful Robot Tee

by Andy on November 17, 2008

I haven’t posted a robot t-shirt in ages, so I’m glad that this absolutely brilliant one from laFraise turned up in my RSS feeds (on the French LaFraise blog, since new tees don’t seem to turn up very often on the English-language EU blog).*

[Unsociable work hours=a lack of HYA time=posts based upon blurbs]

Design is love…that’s the motto. 180ronin is a team of designers whom like to think outside the box. Regardless the project or task at hand, 180ronin creates and brings unorthodox designs to the masses that demand to send a message or crave attention. From ninjas, robots to sexy pin-ups those are just the few subjects that invigorate 180ronin’s imagination to generate interesting designs for your wearing and viewing pleasure. By not following the normal traditions of everyone and just doing what they love, 180ronin will travel from client to client not to serve but to execute whatever message he/she desires to display for the public eye. Design is love and love is what 180ronin juxtaposes into their work.

I’ve just finished watching Transformers on Blu Ray (a present from my brother), so this post timing is actually pretty apt!

What was new at Ten Bills?

by Andy on October 9, 2008

I got an e-mail through from TenBills letting me know about some updates to their site and asking what I thought about them. Since I’m trying to keep things succinct nowadays (I’m writing this post in between preparing a loin of bacon wrapped in bacon and going on the hunt for some more chairs for the dinner table), here’s my thoughts:

The shirts are $10 and look awesome, one of the latest designs even features robots. Awesome, go look.

Damn, that was much quicker, maybe I should put a limit on the amount of words I’m allowed to use in every post.

Big Robo by TokyoPlastic x Terratag

by Andy on October 1, 2008

Here’s the latest and greatest from the robot-lovers over at Terratag, this time around they’ve got Tokyoplastic to do the designing for them, and I think he’s done a pretty tidy job. The mix between the halftones and the solid-colour blood splashes works really well.

Robots Like Art Too by Bang Bang T-Shirts

by Andy on September 9, 2008

Hmmm, it feels like its been way too long since I last posted about a robot t-shirt, so here’s one from Bang Bang T-shirts (who you may have noticed have a lovely new ad banner).

This design, showing a robot appreciating robotic takes on classic artworks, was the winner of their recent ‘Robots’ design competition, and was designed by daniellesgarden.

When I took a quick look, and it was a very quick look, at the submissions to Terratag‘s design competition (basic guidelines: design a t-shirt with a robot on it) I wasn’t actually all that impressed with what I saw, but I guess that I must have missed this design, because I really like the concept, and the execution is pretty great too, so its a good thing it won the competition or I would have never seen it.

Those robots better destroy that city!

I don’t know if this tee is quite as good as one of DBHs other robot-based designs, Robot Attack, but it’s still pretty darned cool. I like the style, I like the way that the blue and pink perk up the largely grey colourway, and I like… I just like it.Costiness=$19 Link
