Me? A sucker for a well shot look book? Never!

It feels like a long time since I’ve written about Make Believe, I was worried that they’d gotten out of the tee business, so it’s great to see them back with some new tees and a couple of short sleeve button-down shirts. Tees are $25-30 each and those button-downs are $60.

You know what? I don’t like these hats, they aren’t my style and that’s completely fine, different people are allowed to like different things and Dream But Do Not Sleep clearly have louder tastes in headwear than I do. What I do like is that these new goods are made in the UK, I think that’s brilliant, I didn’t even know that there was anyone on our collection of islands that was producing hats like this, I knew that shirts were still made in the UK but I thought it was more of a bespoke thing that would push the cost sky high, the £50 for a shirt that they charge is pretty reasonable to me. I don’t know much about DBNS but so far I am very impressed and looking forward to seeing what they come up with next.

Post image for King Apparel AW12 arrives at Sturban Clothing

I was actually thinking to myself over the weekend that Glyn from Sturban hasn’t been in touch for a while, and then when I started work on Monday morning I noticed an e-mail from him, spooky!

He wanted to let us know that King Apparel’s AW12 collection is now in stock at Sturban, and in the process I found that he is a far better writer than I, so instead of me trying to mumble through telling you about the line and end up telling a story about myself in the process, I’ll just copy/paste what he told me:

As winter approaches here in the UK the aut/win clothing ranges start to arrive and one of the first with their split delivery meaning clothing suitable for the UK’s autumn weather is King Apparel.

King Apparel are one of the UKs foremost premium streetwear brands remaining resolute as ever; to develop and grow a clothing brand independently, run by those who live and breath the culture; to create cutting edge design; to deliver impeccable quality and to retain the utmost integrity at every point. Keeping things exclusive with a maximum of 300 pieces or less produced in each garment and a no re-runs or repeats philosophy to retain exclusivity.

With that King Apparel have covered many bases this season with a pricepoint denim coming in at under £55 the Athelstan is set to sell out instantly. Made with the same care and quality of all King garments the Athelstan is setting a new standard, matt black King buttons on the fly, leather K logo patch on the right rear pocket and tan embroidered triple stitch on the rear pockets, these bad boys have been manufactured to perform and sell.

Along with denim King have produced some custom, cut and sew crew neck sweat shirts in classic colour combinations and killer designs, The Prestige with the King lion head logo sells out every season and this year comes in the new exclusive colour Baby Blue. That is supported by what will become classic designs Reign Supreme no fifty shades of grey here just athletic grey with a yellow print and the new East London Kings in Navy with blue print or bad boy black and orange, if you know your culture you will get these designs.

Enough of the classics I said King had covered all the bases and here’s my key piece and whilst others in the streetwear business are playing safe King drop the Duck Camo Rain Mac, BOOM!!!! I love this piece and will be rocking mine any day. King started from scratch and designed the camo and had the fabric produced before they perfected this jacket. I know King Apparel and I have one of their jackets that I wear everyday in the cold morning walking my dogs, it performs and I know the Duck Camo RainMac will too and not only that it looks very, very, VERY cool, sorry did I repeat myself there ;-)

Of course you can get all these pieces plus more from King Apparel and all your other favourite urban streetwear brands from sturbanclothing.com the only place to shop online since 1999 and still keeping it UK and independent all the way.

And yet somehow I’m almost considered a professional writer, madness!

Fall 2012 lands at Glamour Kills

by Andy on August 18, 2012

Post image for Fall 2012 lands at Glamour Kills

Seeing a jacket in a release from a clotihng company makes me sad because I feel like we’ve barely had a Summer here in the UK and people are already turning their attention to Fall/Autumn. Still, it’s a damn good looking jacket at Glamour Kills (and the rest of the collection is pretty nifty too), so head over and check it out.

Every T-shirt in “This is Spinal Tap”

by Andy on August 16, 2012

spinal tap t-shirts

I was watching Spinal Tap with friends a few months ago and couldn’t help but notice that there were an awful lot of t-shirts on show, and since I had so much fun with the Scott Pilgrim t-shirt list I thought I’d give this one a go. It’s hardly surprising considering that tees are the classic rock n’ roll wardrobe staple, but it’s still fun to see interesting tees being worn by characters in a movie, especially when I imagine that quite a lot of them were created specifically for the movie itself.

In spite of the popularity of the film then and now, there are surprisingly few companies out there which have taken the plunge and recreated shirts from the movie, with most seemingly happy to put “it goes to 11″ on a tee and leave it at that. It’s disappointing, but maybe if this post does well some enterprising freelance designers will put their efforts onto a print-on-demand site like Cafepress, Zazzle, or RedBubble so you can snap them up before they get DMCA takedown requests. If they make them, I’ll post them here, but for now we’ll have to make do with merely enjoying looking at the great t-shirts featured in Spinal Tap. Please note that I was taking screen grabs from the DVD version of the film since I don’t know anyone with the Blu-Ray version, but if this post gets enough attention I will happily order a copy of the Blu-Ray so that we can have some extra detail for the images. Also, I would never claim to be a Spinal Tap authority, I’ve seen the film a few times and really like it, but if I make any errors in this post just let me know and I’ll fix it right up.

50+ Hunger Games T-shirts

by Andy on March 26, 2012

50+ hunger games t-shirts

The Hunger Games was one of the most anticipated movies of the year with some people describing it as ‘the new Twilight’ (in terms of popularity, and it opened this weekend at cinemas across the US to take in $150+ million in ticket sales, for the 3rd biggest opening weekend of all time(!). I know that the books are aimed at people slightly younger than me (I’ve taken seeing 16-18 year old girls reading it as a sign it may not be a book for me), but the movie certainly looks a lot more appealing than the Twilight series, and I’m definitely going to be checking it out.

I’ve seen and written about quite a few Hunger Games t-shirts in the daily roundup posts over the past few months so I thought I’d put together a nice and epic list of tees for you all to enjoy. With Hunger Games being a fairly new phenomenon I’ve found that a lot of the usual players haven’t yet caught onto it’s popularity, leaving the print-on-demand sites, most notably RedBubble (even though they have been removing copyright infringing designs lately), to lead the way in terms of apparel for fans of the series. I’m sure this situation will change in time and more brands will release Hunger Games t-shirts, and when they do I will try and update this list.

As ever with these lists, they do take quite a lot of time, so if you could be so kind as to share them with your buddies via Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest or any other medium that would be truly fantastic. Enjoy!

I do hope to make the list less reliant on RedBubble shirts as I’d like there to be more variety, hopefully tee companies feel the same way. If you enjoyed the list please do share it around and let people know about it, or leave a comment, and if you know a good tee that I’ve missed from the list be sure to let me know about it in the comments, or via Twitter or Facebook.

kneedeepinsleep

When a brand starts having their own cut & sew work done you know that things are starting to get serious, and Kneedeepinsleep are most definitely serious, released 4 seriously nice t-shirts, a jacket, and some shirts recently. They’ve also got a fresh looking new website. The prices are fairly premium to what we’re used to here on HYA, but as everything is on a limited run, packaging is boxes rather than polybags, and all produced in England and Italy there are obviously costs that aren’t traditionally associated with a regular t-shirt brand.

disturbia clothing

It’s really interesting to see Disturbia branching out and growing beyond being a company that sells t-shirts and hoodies to being more of a lifestyle brand. I’ve made it clear in the past that their style isn’t necessarily something that I would wear, although I would happily pick up a few of these items (the non-horror/gore ones) which probably shows that as they’re growing and diversifying they’re also starting to appeal to those of us that don’t want to wear a shirt with a torrent of blood on it.

‘Hairy Otter and the Half Bent Pins’ image by Cathie Tranent

Let’s get one thing quite clear, I know extremely little about Harry Potter, I’ve never read one of the books (I always tell my HP-loving friends that I “don’t read children’s books” and then stand back whilst they rant), and I’ve never seen any of the films, though curiously I have seen one of the flying Ford Anglia’s that were used during filming. However, one of my friends (who is OBSESSED with Harry Potter) asked me how come I can spend so much time compiling lists and not mention Harry Potter? Apparently me not knowing anything about the series wasn’t a good enough excuse for her, so I pretty much had to write this list. Unfortunately, it would seem that whilst Harry Potter may have an awful lot of fans, they apparently aren’t graphic designers, which has resulted in this list being populated with more than a few tees that wouldn’t get featured on HYA in a normal post, but hopefully you Harry Potter fans will now have something appropriate to wear next week when the new film comes out.

Mishka NYCs Latest Lookbook

by Andy on November 12, 2008

Mishka NYC are one of those brands which I never really get too excited by, but they always impress me. Maybe they don’t excite me because they send out so many e-mail newsletters that I just get a bit bored of them. Still, their latest offerings look great.

45 more robot tees

by Andy on January 14, 2008

asimopostheader.jpg

Since the last post (Robots! 50 Robot Tees) was so popular, I thought I’d do a follow-up. Not quite 50 tees this time (that was a lot of work), but there’s more than enough here for you to welcome our future robot overlords when they eventually rise up and take over the planet, or play the violin, either way, I’m freaked out and prepared to embrace their superiority.

Robots! 50 robot tees

by Andy on September 13, 2007

title.jpg

I’ve noticed that there’s a lot of tee’s that are robot based on the internet, designers must like drawing robots, presumably people must like drawing tees with robots on. So for little reason other than being bored and having way too much time on my hands, I decided to compile a list of them.

Since this list is quite long, I’ve put it behind a break so that the front page of the blog maintains some kind of normalcy.

*Update* If you’re on the hunt for long lists of t-shirts, there is a newer list of 101 Robot t-shirts that I wrote in June 2009.
