Springleap do print-on-demand now

by Andy on November 13, 2012

Post image for Springleap do print-on-demand now

It’s amazing that in just the past 10 years or so that print-on-demand technology has come so far that it is no a viable option for brands wanted to produce high quality t-shirts and print onto just about any colour of t-shirt too (it used to be that printing onto a dark t-shirt was practically impossible). South African design competition Springleap have decided to make the switch over to POD from traditional screenprinting, and in the process that means that they will be able to offer almost all of their back catalogue at any one time (they can print them when they’re ordered so there’s no need to keep stock on hand of older design which aren’t as popular). Initially they’re offering a limited range of designs in POD format and just printed on black, white, and melange (whatever colour that is), but I can only assume that this range will expand over time. You can also get 10% off anything in store at the moment with the coupon code demand2010 for an unknown amount of time.

I get the impression that this means they will stop selling screenprinted shirts soon, which is a bit of a pity since it’s still very hard to match that quality level, but as I say, POD has come on leaps and bounds so hopefully there won’t be much of a difference.

springleap glass recycling

I don’t think that these winning designs are in the shop yet at Springleap, but it certainly is neat to see some well designed shirts to help raise environmental awareness since those two things don’t always seem to go hand in hand.

manentines day t-shirts

I still refuse to believe that Manentine’s Day is a real thing (it was yesterday, apparently), but at least Springleap have been able to get some cool designs out of it, my personal favourite being the 2nd placed winner, ‘Love Bubble’.

The shirts are available now from the Manentines Day store.

T-shirt news for March 9th

by Andy on March 9, 2012

how I met your mother t-shirt

Considering how popular How I Met Your Mother is there are surprisingly few t-shirts about it, TeeFury are bucking that trend.

Shirt.Woot‘s description suggests that this shirt has nothing to do with the Brady Bunch.

Whiskey and zombies, a match made in the apocalypse (and at RIPT).

An Asian take on the three-eyed fish from the early days of The Simpsons are Qwertee.

Zelda inspired shirt at Shirt Punch.

A surprisingly intricate Vader design at The Yetee.

I might be reading a bit more into this that there really is, but today is the anniversary of the Notorious B.I.G’s death, and he had a song called ‘Recognize a Pimp’ so…. 24tee, did I crack the code?

Hydro74 has one of those styles you can recognise really easily, here he is at DBH today.

SpringLeap have teamed up with Stimorol for their biggest ever design contest, and this time it’s for packaging, not tees.

cat in a top hat

Cats wearing hats on the internet? Nah, I’m sure that no one will like this tee from Springleap!

doctor who t-shirt

This is definitely one of the better Doctor Who designs that I’ve seen for a while from TeeFury, very nice work indeed.

Ninja chameleon from Shirt.Woot, ha!

Zelda gets a new mashup at RIPT.

springleap t-shirt

This tee went on sale at Springleap before I started paying closer attention to their releases, so this is actually the first time that I’ve seen “Longing to Breathe”, but I think that it’s pretty cool and I can see why it has been voted as their top tee of 2011 over at South Africa’s premiere (only?) design contest. I’m not sure if there was a prize attached with being voted top or if it was just bragging rights, but congratulations to designer kookylove nevertheless.

marmite t-shirts

You know how they say you’ll either love or hate Marmite? I have no idea which of those people I am since I’ve never tried the stuff, I’ve just never been interested, I saw a jar in the cupboard today and thought “not today Marmite, not today.” Then again, I was having croissants for breakfast so that’s probably fair enough.

Impressive array of winners from Springleap in their Marmite competition, I think my favourite is the crest style design, really nice style to that one.

nick of time t-shirt

I love the way that daleconcepts has introduced just a splash of colour to the latest winner at South African design competition Springleap.

At the time of writing the shirt hadn’t quite become available for purchase, but I think by the time this post goes live you’ll be able to pick it up for £17 here.

Daily Tees & News for December 12th

by Andy on December 12, 2011

breaking bad t-shirt

Everyone have a good weekend? I did until last night when I had a nasty fall during my snowboarding lesson at the dry slope. Fell on my front, my jakcet rode up and my stomach turned into ‘brakes’, my tummy new resembles those crisps that are meant to look like streaky bacon, oh, the pain!

I really want to get into Breaking Bad, but after a couple of episodes of the first season it was just too depressing so I stopped, I will probably try again though. Shirt is $10 today at TeeFury.

I haven’t read Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy, but apparently this Qwertee shirt has something to do with it.

Apparently this RIPT tee is something to do with a cartoon show that may or may not be on TV anymore but to be completely honest I don’t recognise it and no one mentions it in the RIPT comments, your suggestions please!

And what band is this Owl at Shirt.Woot listening to? The Who, of course!

Pretty rare that you see a Gremlins tee, but this is a lovely example of the breed at The Yetee.

Seinfeld Festivus shirt over at TeeMinus24. Funny how you don’t hear much about Christmukkah nowadays.

I haven’t seen Donnie Darko so this shirt at OtherTees may or may not be genius.

You want an Angry Birds t-shirt? 24tee have got it!

A melting Portal companion cube greets us today at TeeRaiders.

I really like this Star Wars design at Graphic Lab, but I do question the black on dark grey colour choice. Then again, it would probably look a bit naff if it was on a white t-shirt.

Ahhh, one of my favourite Loviu designs.

Pikachu gets an outing on this Shirt Punch design.

Tshirt Contest ensure that we have at least one Doctor Who t-shirt today, thank goodness.

Very nice shirt of the day at DBH.

BustedTees deal of the next couple of days is their attachment that you put on a beer to make it look like you have a mustache. Presumably it’s like those little win trinkets people buy so that you know who’s wine glass belongs to who, except for beer. $8.99 for 6 instead of $11.99

Expansion II comes out to play once again at Tilteed.

Tee Mashups is a site I found out about at the weekend that offers designs on sale for 48 hours. Today and tomorrow they have a Dick Tracey vs Carmen Sandiego shirt available.

Megan Fox may be a very attractive lady, and that’s a pretty cool sweatshirt, but I will never understand why people wear stuff that looks like it has spent a few months with a bunch of moths.

Wrongwroks have added hiking boots to their product range, of course.

There’s 25% off everything today only at Loserkids.

Mashable have a good resource for increasing Facebook engagement through custom tabs that should be useful for store owners.

Yes No Maybe have a few coupon codes available. The more you spend the more you save, all the way up to 20% off.

Original Music Shirt, who I still think took a lot of inspiration from Threadless with their redesign, are offering free global shipping with the coupon code ILIKETOMOVEIT if you spend 25€+ before December 14th.

Springleap are holding a contest that is only open to previous design winners, which should make for some pretty tasty entries.

OMUNKY are offering 18% off from now until December 19th with the coupon code 18off2011.

PalmerCash are now selling shirts, the kind with buttons!

The Quiet Life are running a holiday promo, if you spend $100 or more they’ll give you a free duffel bag that they usuall charge $40 for. It would be perfect for carrying around your gym gear since that will inevitably be your new years resolution. Go to the gym more dammit Andy! They’ve also restocked their hat selection.

Terratag are knocking 10% off all orders. No coupon necessary, the discount will automatically be applied at the checkout.

Whilst I do like the idea of ‘ugly’ Christmas tees I think that this Kickstarter project might be a bit too late, it won’t be funded (if it reaches 100%) until January 9th, and then when will you receive the shirt? I’m pretty sure everyone’s Christmas cheer will be long gone by that time.

Daily Tees & News for December 2nd

by Andy on December 2, 2011

teefury highlander t-shirt

When I opened all the daily sites today (21 tabs, Firefox doesn’t care for that much) I wondered whether I’d actually get to see the TeeFury site. Thankfully it turned up, so any possible malware that may have existed yesterday appears to have been removed and all is right with the world again. I remain disappointed by the response from TeeFury about the issue, it took them at least 13 hours to acknowledge any kind of problem (done by their Facebook page), and they only wrote about it after the warning message had been removed. They posted this message on Twitter at the same time as the Facebook message: “If you had trouble reaching http://teefury.com earlier, try now! We’ve addressed the issue that was causing problems: http://ow.ly/7LyK8″ That link now goes to a 404 page. Frankly, that is not good enough, if you might be exposing your fans to malware via your site you have to tell people by every avenue about the issue and warn them as soon as possible, not when you’ve fixed the problem, and you should make some kind of mention of it when you send out a newsletter that day (presumably to thousands of people). I still like TeeFury and will continue to write about them, but I do not like the way they dealt with this situation.

Nerd joke at RIPT today.

Daily News & Tee Roundup for November 21st

by Andy on November 21, 2011

warwick davis t-shirt

I’ve had a change of tack today and I’m putting Shirt Punch at the top of the roundup because today their designer is not by a normal t-shirt artist, it’s by sophisticated dwarf about town Warwick Davis of Star Wars (and currently ‘Life’s too Short’) fame. I know that his new show has gotten a lot of negative press for exploiting short people, but I don’t think he’d be in the show if he didn’t think it was right for him. Nice to see Philip Schofield in the sideart section!

I watched the first episode of The Walking Dead (season 2) at the weekend so I think this TeeFury shirt is pretty dang cool.

Qwertee, or at least someone, has sold this ‘Joy of Death’ shirt before, I’m sure of it.

Very sweet design by BootsBoots at Tilteed today, and whilst it isn’t new to the site, it is new to me.

Nowhere Bad are referencing Iocane Powder from the Princess Bride again.

Seems like this camera t-shirts from Stupidhurts.us provides yet another lovely opportunity to mention my new camera accessories site, Rigu.

Rare that you see Shakespeare quoted on a t-shirt, but Shirt.Woot have pulled it off.

It’s also rare to see RIPT re-using designs, but that is the case with this Tardis/Union Jack t-shirt.

The Yetee give some love to a pair of Ninja Turtles characters that don’t often get a look in when it comes to t-shirts.

I’ve never seen the Slap Bet episode of How I Met Your Mother, but it’s cool the way that they bring it in during later episodes, I like the way that HIMYM has a lot more callbacks than most shows. TeeMinus24.

Random shirts on sale at OtherTees for the next 4 days.

I don’t really understand what this Crane Jackson thing is all about at 24tee today. I’ve found a strange Facebook page that might be a real theatre, and that Crane Jackson was a real person, but I still don’t quite get it. The mystery is quite fun though.

Today at TeeRaiders they’re celebrating a show called Once Upon a Time that’s only been on the air for a month on ABC in the US, I can’t decide if that’s brilliant or terrible.

GraphicLab have a shirt this week that combines Nintendo’s famous Power Glove with Thanos from the Marvel universe.

Really cool design from Loviu today.

2nd design has been made available from Tshirt Contest, this one is all about how delicious meat is.

Not really my kind of shirt at DBH today.

Someone on Instructables has made a fun looking shirt with LEDs in it.

Wrongwroks will be releasing this hoodie today, I really like the contrast detail on the zip and hood.

Springleap have teamed up with Marmite for a design competition.

PLNDR have more ridiculous prices in their bargain bin today.

Get $25 off with the coupon code 25X8TN at 80s Purple when you spend $80 or more (and there’s free shipping if you spend $99 or more).

Sturban Clothing have started selling Quilted Jackets by SeventySeven.

This guy called Jack got in touch to let me know about his site, and whilst the tees aren’t really my style, I thought you guys might like his stuff, and he seems very likeable in spite of the odd choice of creating a website that is 300 pixels wide.

Chris Kawagiwa, who recently had a few designs printed over at Might Fine, sent me an e-mail that pointed me towards a concept & process video for one of his steampink Star Wars designs. It’s really cool to watch it come together from pen & paper to the finished tee.

RadCakes have released three new shirts that I don’t particularly care for, perhaps you do.

no room for hubris t-shirt

I’m trying to work this shirt out, it’s called “no room for hubris” and yet it has a picture of some dude on it… what’s the deal with that?

Also, if you’re the kind of person that subs artwork to design competitions, Springleap have got a couple of comps open at the moment, with $700 and $1250 up for grabs.

Springleap Coupon Code

by Andy on January 28, 2011

springleap coupon code

The coupon code cupid101 will get you R80 off your order at Springleap. You might be asking yourself, what the hell is R80 when it’s at home, well, tees are Springleap cost R183, which is about $24, so using math we can work out that R80 is a saving of about $10.50, good work, math!

Oh, and you’d probably be thinking that the code is only valid until Valentines Day since we all know Cupid goes to hibernate in his velvet fortress on February 15th, but it’ll actually keep on saving until the end of March.

Brute Force Brigade at Springleap

by Andy on January 19, 2011

brute force brigade t-shirt

I don’t mention Springleap that often, and from what I can tell not many of my tee blogging brethren do either, I don’t think anyone really has anything against South Africa’s #1 (and only?) crowdsourced t-shirt design competition, but their location may well have something to do with it, even though the internet does have a tendency to significantly reduce the importance of geography.

It would be nice if Springleap also offered vinyl toys because I think those characters would look pretty badass.
