Boston Tee Party Recap Winky Boo Style

by Amy_F on August 19, 2012

Boston Tee Party 2012

Last weekend was a huge weekend for the indie clothing community.  Months of planning lead to the First Annual Boston Tee Party & Artist/Design Expo.  Hosted by Kelly Murphy (owner of Saucewear & The Tee Gazette) and co-hosted by (yours truly) Amy Fiedler (owner of Winky Boo & blogger/contributor for Hide Your Arms), the Tee party took place in where else? Boston, MA!

Brands from all over gathered in Boston to take part in the Boston Tee Party.  From New Jersey, to California, Florida and UK, we all traveled to take part in this extraordinary event that didn’t disappoint.  Starting the day off with 3 guest speakers which then lead us into the shopping and networking part while the live music played.

For the rest of my recap of the First Annual Boston Tee Party and to check out photos from the event head on over to the Winky Boo Blog for a closer look at this outstanding Indie Event!!

Take me to the Winky Boo Blog

No, there is not a typo in that title, this post is for the best tees on Storenvy that were released in May, it’s just taken Tee Gazette a little bit longer than usual to post their choices.

T-shirt news for March 19th

star wars t-shirt

So, I guess we could call this a Star Wars x Star Wars mashup at TeeFury?

Random shirts at Shirt.Woot for $6.66 today.

RIPT drop a Skyrim tee today.

Brilliant pirate typography shirt up at Qwertee.

Shirt Punch have a Sherlock Holmes tee that will make little sense to the vast majority of British viewers, which says a lot about the global popularity of the show.

There’s an alien invasion at Nowhere Bad.

Snake make an appearance at The Yetee.

I had to Google it, but this shirt at OtherTees references the high school attended by the Power Rangers.

When it comes to old school nerd tee designs it doesn’t get much older than this at 24tee.

TeeRaiders have a Supernatural referencing design for us.

Delightful shirt up at DBH today.

Lego gets some love at GraphicLab today.

Three fun new designs from Goodjoe.

Wrongwroks have released a military style shirt.

Miles To Go will release their Spring collection on Wednesday, and I’ll probably forget to mention it.

Speaking of MTG, here’s a speed run video of one of the new designs.

‘Vitruvian Prime’ makes an appearance at OtherTees.

Weird skull based design at Stupidhurts.us today.

I suspect we’ll be seeing quite a lot of these election tees this year, this Harry Potter take on the genre is pretty nice.

“I want you…. to” at 24tee.

I like the little splash of colour on this new tee at DBH.

This design at Made in the Now celebrates the Indian festival of Holi.

Tilteed have a study of turtles, and it’s adorable.

RockCandy have a Spring Sale going on with yp to 30% off.

TTG intverview Branded Baron and they have a giveaway for a couple of tees too.

TTG also report on the story of a girl walking into Tesco (the giant UK supermarket chain, £1 of every £8 spent in the UK is spent at Tescos) and finding her face on a sweatshirt in the clothing section. I like the way that in the photo she’s meant to look annoyed but you can tell she’s happy to be getting in the papers.

Another Successful TeeTalk, Join Us Next Time!

by Leah on February 27, 2012

TeeTalk

Hello there, let’s recap TeeTalk from last week, shall we?

First of all, for those of you that are not familiar with TeeTalk, it is a chatroom created by Rick at OMUNKY (and I am his little helper/moderator). TeeTalk meets once a month and there we talk about everything t-shirt related – everyone is welcome of course; t-shirt fans, designers, bloggers, and even those who do all the printing of the tees we love.

Last week’s TeeTalk had a great turnout; fans and artists alike. Being a fan, I of course like to point out the designers, bloggers and companies that showed up. I listed and linked them below – go ahead and check them out:

Andreas Krapf of Denada Clothing
Daniel J. Newman, an artist better known as QuakerNinja
Jared Thompson of Tee Gazette, as well as DesignJuices
Jeremy Picker co-owner of AMB3R Custom Tees
Matt Eyer, owner of Wear Liberty and blogger here on Hide Your Arms
Nader Boraie, owner and designer at Labyrinth Clothing
Phil Wheeler, a designer and illustrator also known as pweye
Spraypaint, graphic designer
Tessa Sainz, a designer and illustrator
Lastly, we also met the owners of Mutated Tees, as well as GET Hi!p Society Co.

We chatted about A LOT of things, more than I can sum up in this one blog post, but of those things we chatted about, my favorite topic was: What tee are you wearing now? It is always fun to discover what everyone is wearing; it helps you get to know that person – their style, as well as their personality, but the main thing is it introduces fans to new brands and artists! (Yay!)

T-shirts That Made an Appearance at TeeTalk:

I was happily wearing a DBH that night, Incredible Light by Huebucket.

Another t-shirt fan like myself, Michael Leonetti, wore Bunny from FashionInk Clothing.

Nader Boraie was wearing Sight, a tee from his very own brand, Labyrinth.

Quakerninja wore this one by Qetza titled, Sed de Sangre.

Tabitha Payne, a Buddha fan AND t-shirt fan, wore Buddha Bot by John Sumrow.

Erick Enders, another huge fan of tees (was surprisingly not wearing a t-shirt from an indie brand like usual), but was wearing a band tee from Watchout! There’s Ghosts.

And one more… Rick Waters of OMUNKY was wearing his design, Tiger Turmoil.

That’s all for now, so join in the next chat if you want more. Keep checking back here at Hide Your Arms for the time and date of the next TeeTalk – I will definitely keep you informed, that’s a promise! Also take a peak (and like) our Facebook page or follow us on Twitter too.

T-shirt news for January 26th

by Andy on January 26, 2012

star wars argyle t-shirt

Very nice argyle Star Wars t-shirt today at TeeFury.

Seems to me like this is the kind of design that Shirt.Woot should have been selling in the run up to Christmas.

RIPT drop a Milton Glaser-inspired Doctor Who t-shirt.

Harry Potter Muggle Ale shirt at Qwertee.

Those troublesome Tribbles are at Shirt Punch today.

Skyrim is the inspiration for this Nowhere Bad shirt.

I have no idea what the inspiration is for this design at The Yetee.

Star Wars meets Firefly today at OtherTees (who have a snazzy new site).

TeeRaiders have a Doctor Who design as well.

24tee go for the niche with one of the stars of the (surprisingly enthralling) King of Kong coin-op games documentary.

DBH love owls. On that subject, I saw a man walking down the street with an owl yesterday. Owls are great.

Hey look, Tilteed are selling one of their lesser seen designs again.

I have no idea what the kanji (presuming it’s Japanese) on this shirt says, so buyer beware at TeeMinus24.

Tee Gazette have put together their 10 favourite tees from the Storenvy marketplace for January.

Sock Monkee have released their Ampertastic Mr. Fox design as a print.

Adam over at IAMTHETREND busts six commonly held myths about his employer Storenvy.

Wrongwroks have released a parka with a faux fur trim.

Threadless have made some tees available to be put on Xbox avatars, and they cost about $1 each, but here’s the real kicker, if you want a hoodie you have to pay $2. They’re pixels, just because it costs double in real life doesn’t mean that they should cost double on the Xbox marketplace!

Glennz has made some more designs available as hoodies.

Mashable have a guide to building a strong online community around your brand.

Everything is on sale at Myth Clothing.

This Rihanna ‘thug life’ tattoo picture has been doing the rounds, but it’s her John Lennon t-shirt that interests me the most.

Here’s Katy Perry wearing a pretty cool hoodie (and I suspect a cool skull-based all over print t-shirt too).

Buy one get one free (on tees, not hoodies) at Eleven Eleven.

Typography Shop have put all their hoodies on sale.

Sehubabe have released a hoodie and t-shirt for Transardentes 2012 (a Belgian electro rock festival).

TanDan have been added as a brand store at A Better Tomorrow.

T-shirt News for January 20th

stand by me t-shirt

Thank you TeeFury commenters for explaining to me that this is a Stand By Me t-shirt.

I am rarely a fan of Shirt.Woot‘s art shirts, and this design doesn’t convince me otherwise.

Scooby Doo t-shirt at RIPT today.

The cool thing about this Shirt Punch tee is that parts of it glow in the dark, cool to see a Totoro shirt as well, Mrs. HYA would love this one.

I couldn’t really get into Spartacus: Blood and Sand, it was all a bit too much for my tastes, even the lure of Xena’s boobs wasn’t enough to keep me watching! This shirt is from The Yetee.

Like many people, I’m well over the ‘Keep Calm’ meme, but this OtherTees shirt made me laugh.

24tee really do love The Big Lebowski.

It’s another Star Wars vacation design from TeeMinus24.

It’s been a while since I posted a Wotto design, good to see him back in action at DBH.

Hey look, Tilteed are selling this tee by a.mar.illo again.

Mint Magazine have an interview with prolific t-shirt artist Drew Millward.

Craig Robson has added some new posters to his store, Daggers For Teeth.

T-shirt News Roundup for January 16th

by Andy on January 16, 2012

mythbusters t-shirt

Dexter’s Laboratory meets Mythbusters in this shirt from Teefury.

Y’know, I’ve never seen Donnie Darko, judging by the amount of shirts about it, including this one from Qwertee, I probably should (lots of shirts usually = a good movie).

Shirt.Woot have a delightful 8-bit Ghostbusters design.

Strangely, RIPT also have a Ghostbusters shirt, though with a Muppets twist.

Glow in the dark shirt from The Yetee.

Nowhere Bad have a Portal inspired shirt.

OtherTees have a nice Sherlock design. Did anyone see the last episode of the current run last night? That show is so damn good.

24Tee are selling a familiar stormtrooper design.

TeeRaiders have a Firefly design that I didn’t need to Google to work out what it was.

Quite a pretty Twitter design from Stupidhurts.us.

GraphicLab have a Portal shirt on sale all this week.

Tee Mashups is closing, which is unfortunate, though at least they are being up front about things and are sending refunds to people that will not receive their shirts.

Star Wars comes to Shirt Punch today.

Not my kind of tee at DBH today, but interesting nevertheless.

Hey look, Tilteed are selling Greg Abbott’s lovely fox design again.

Glennz has turned five of his designs into iPhone wallpapers (may also work with other smartphones, I’m not sure).

Tony over at Wrongwroks has released a parka jacket in five different colours.

Halfcut Clothing have released a shirt to celebrate their involvement with the Blind Tiger Collective. Use coupon code hcc10 to get 10% off your order in their store.

Big Cartel let us know about some of their milestones in 2012, such as collective store sales of over $100,000,000 from their almost 200,000 stores.

Mighty Fine are running a competition with Marvel to find an amazing Avengers t-shirt design with the winner receiving up to $2,500.

Johnny Cupcakes has a couple of new tees, and a couple of new hats in his stores.

Here’s Rihanna wearing a Celine t-shirt that probably cost more than my whole outfit.

Daily T-shirt News Roundup for January 13th

by Andy on January 13, 2012

exorcist rolling stones t-shirt

This shirt at TeeFury is a mashup of The Exorcist and the Rolling Stones, which is pretty appropriate for Friday the 13th, it’s almost like they planned it!

I’m fairly sure that I’ve seen this Firefly shirt somewhere else before it docked at Qwertee.

Shirt.Woot have the kind of shirt I would put on a level with Three Wolf Moon, except with no ironic redemption.

RIPT are getting into the Hobbit spirit a little early.

TeeMinus24 must have been watching LOTR too.

This 24tee shirt doesn’t really work with my British mind.

One for the Star Wars fans at TeeRaiders.

An Ozzy Osbourne/Iron Man parody for you today at Shirt Punch.

Now that’s an angry bear at DBH (who I notice have made a few little tweaks to their homepage).

Loviu are doing mystery tees for 7€ from now until the end of the month. The text says “order 3 mystery tees only 7 euros each” but I think that three is the maximum for one transaction, not the minimum, as I was able to add one tee to the cart when I gave it at go.

BustedTees have got their Hunger Games t-shirt on sale for $11.99 instead of $20 for the rest of today.

Hey look, Tilteed, are selling ‘Expansion II’ again.

Details of Graniph‘s design award have been announced. Submissions open on February 1st, and the top prize is 500,000 yen, which is probably a lot of money.

Kid Robot have a decent sale on, with 50% off all of last year’s designs.

The first of Obey’s Spring 2012 line has dropped at Urban Industry.

I think that only a mother could love these (recently restocked) barcode hoodies at Methods NYC, but the coupon code of BRICK getting you 25% off your order on anything in the store until tomorrow at midnight (EST, presumably) is a lot more tantalising.

Taken Clothing have got everything on sale for $20 until January 17th. I’m not sure how much things cost before the sale, but presumably it was more than $20.

Get 13% off your order at Trust No One with the coupon code UNLUCKYFORSOME until 9am tomorrow UK time.

t-shirt world record

See that guy? That guy right there is the world record holder for the most amount of t-shirts worn at once, 249, weighing in at an impressive 200 pounds. To me the weight is one of the most impressive aspects of this world record; when I imagine wearing lots and lots of tees the first obstacle that I see is getting large enough sized tees when you get to the upper end of the scale, I’ve got 300+ tees in my bedroom right now but I doubt I could get more than 20 of them on before they got too tight, but standing there putting on (and presumably having them being put on you once you can barely move your arms) with that weight on your body what what I would assume is a lengthy amount of time is no mean feat. Well done Andy Coyne, well done.

sloth goonies t-shirt

I’m not too excited by the Sloth & Crossbones Goonies shirt at TeeFury today, you?

Very cute illustration style on this Shirt.Woot tee, maybe this shirt will perk you up to stick with your New Year’s resolutions?

Not the kind of Star Wars t-shirt that I’d wear, but a pretty cool concept from RIPT nonetheless.

Can anyone explain to me why The Yetee are describing this felines as pizzacats?

Very cool Fantastic Mr. Fox inspired t-shirt at Shirt Punch today.

GraphicLab have a shirt that is a little lost on me, it’s a mashup of The Impossible Man from the Marvel universe and Magnitude from Community.

Star Trek inspired visual pun from TeeMinus24 today.

I’m fairly sure that this TeeRaiders design is the first Warehouse 13 shirt that I’ve seen.

Stupidhurts.us give this well worn phrase another run out.

OtherTees have a Doctor Who shirt that I’m sure I’ve seen before.

Qwertee make a connection between Portal and zombies.

Loviu reiterate their ‘barbie is a slut’ stance.

Tilteed have their boomerang-based design up again.

Co-Tee TV Episode 88: Moustardche, Javaboi Industries, and Hot Dogs from Coty Gonzales on Vimeo.

Coty has a new episode of Co-Tee TV up, featuring Moustardache, Javaboi Industries, and Hot Dogs.

The selection process may have been unscientific, but it’s nice to see HYA at the top (the position may or may not mean anything) of this list of the “21 Most Important t-shirt blogs of 2011.”

Tee Hunter take a look at the A Bathing Ape x Star Wars collection.

Fuel Your Creativity have an article about starting a clothing line with no money. It does make it all seems a little easy in my eyes, but there are worse stepping off points.

Here’s another t-shirt from PalmerCash I bookmarked ages ago but never got around to posting about.

2sickbastards have got up to 50% off their art prints until January 13th.

Snapback hats are now in store at Glamour Kills.

Did you know that howies was part of Timberland? I say was because as of the start of this year they bought themselves out and are now an independent business again.

Fairly obscure Terminator design at Shirt Punch today.

Nowhere Bad reminds of another badass facet of Lincoln’s character.

TeeMinus24 bring out a pop art inspired Admiral Ackbar shirt.

24tee have a shirt for hipsters.

Shirt with a wolf on it at DBH.

I’m sure that TeeBlitz have sold this design before, and it’s a little odd that the time remaining for the design is “-359 days”, but hopefully that doesn’t mean there’s trouble at TeeBlitz.

Loviu wheel out this older design.

Oldie-but-goodie at Tilteed today.

Get 30% off at Seventh.Ink this weekend with the coupon code NEWYEAR2012. [via TeeGazette]

Here’s Miley Cyrus wearing a Pink Floyd t-shirt, I’m sure that will annoy no one.

Get ready for the Boston Tee Party!

by Andy on January 4, 2012

Boston teeparty

Kelly over at Tee Gazette is putting together a very ambitious event in Boston this summer. Essentially, it’s a trade show, a networking event, a party, a chance to learn about the business, and a gig. Obviously I won’t be there, but hopefully a lot of t-shirt people that I’ve written about on HYA will be attending and it will be a great chance for people that have connected over the internet to connect in the real world, make some business contacts, and have a damn good time.

The specifics of the event haven’t been nailed down yet, but you can find Tee Gazette’s announcement about the event here, where you can also register your interest.
