This t-shirt is ridiculously cool, it has three actual cables stitched into it!
If you’ve never been to Tokyo, you’d probably be surprised that a nation that is generally regarded as being technologically advanced (and it is in many respects) doesn’t seem to have grasped the idea of having tidy cables running through their streets. I found that to be a little surprising, but it was usually on little side-streets filled with interesting little shops (I was staying in Akihabara, so there was lots of interesting little shops), so it just helped to add to the Blade Runner-esque atmosphere that I frequently found myself in.

Tokyo Art Beat seem to be a jack of all trades in the Japanese art world (and New York now too), they have events listings, job listings (rather sparse at the moment), interviews, news, and a very cool
bi-monthly map of arts happenings in Tokyo.
Luckily for us, they haven’t spread themselves too thin, because their t-shirt ranges are always consistently excellent, and these latest two designs are no exception. TAB have a good blog post about the two new tees and their respective designers, or you can just head straight for the shop.

Everytime I see or read anything about Japan or Tokyo my mind gets transported back to the wonderful
10 days I spent there in 2007, so I’m always glad to get an e-mail from
Tokyo Art Beat, and not just because they consistently put out excellent t-shirts.
The latest two designs are by Ko-zou and Tada Reiko, and represent the first part of TABs fourth collection. They’re going to be releasing two new designs every couple of months, presumably sticking with their signature white, pink, and blue colourways for the whole collection. I really like the photoshoot that they did for these two tees, the shots were taken in a genuine Love Hotel.

Tokyo Art Beat, who release five limited edition tees every year (I think I mentioned them about a year ago), which are all pretty beautiful as long, as you like cyan and magenta!Until the end of the month all five of the designs are on
sale, down from 3800 yen to 2500 yen, which is about $24, although tees seem to be rather rapidly selling out, so be quick if you want one. All the profits go to feed the staff of their non-profit organisation, so, are you going to go and buy a t-shirt and help someone eat delicious, delicious tempura, or let them go hungry?
