Filthy Nasty is back!

by Mr Four Fingers on March 31, 2012

Shit lasers

Filthy and nasty indeed. Well maybe not so nasty. Filthy Nasty boasts a t-shirt/vest range with a focus on the DJ/ club scene and does well to make strong links in this direction. They went all quiet when Darren was focusing on his club nights in Scotland, but he’s back in the tee game now and hungry for more. Their core range are type driven and lean, nay, leap towards cheeky, brazen and often quoting songs. I loved reading the ‘Shiny Disco Balls’ as it reminded me of going to Ibiza and yes I need a lot of reminding. There are reasons why there is a club called Amnesia.

If you like club\DJ related type tees then these guys are for you. However you can also wear a silver Disco Buddha, he is just cool. From what I can gather from their t-shirt images there is quite a nicely designed label on the inside collar with sizes and care instructions, which is always a nice touch.

All their t-shirts are a square £20 and £15 for vests. So head over to Filthy Nasty and start shitting lasers.

Can you guess what font this t-shirt (that can be bought as a hoodie too) is written in? Also available are some tees/hoodies in a similar style which aren’t in Times New Roman or Comic Sans.

Super Domestique by Morvelo

by Andy on November 10, 2009

super_3

I wonder if there is any meaning behind this design, or if it’s just meant to be a cool type treatment?

This tee isn’t actually in the usual theme of Morvelo, they’re a actually a biking brand (as in bikes with pedals), so if you’re into that kind of thing they’re very much worth checking out, but this shirt really stuck out for me.

Too Weird to Live Too Rare to Die by Vig Tees

I could be way off the mark, and possibly expecting too much of you guys to know, but is the type treatment on this tee meant to be referencing a movie, I can’t help but feel that I’ve seen it before somewhere, but how would you even go about googling this kind of thing?

Typohgraphy hoodie by Turn Nocturnal

by Andy on September 24, 2009

300

My apologies for the size of the photos, it would appear from Turn Nocturnal’s Facebook and Flickr groups that this is the only item in their catalogue not to be involved in a photoshoot, but you can probably tell from that little photo that this hoodie is pretty freakin’ sweet, well, assuming you get excited by typography, which apparently everyone does nowadays.

I just saw this, so my apologies for catching it as sizes are really limited (women’s S/M/L the black tee, men’s L the blue tee), as I’d guess that some of you type folks would love a piece of this. It’s pretty rare that a typography joke makes me laugh, in fact, I’m fairly sure it’s never happened,* so this tee must be doing something right.

Costiness=£10 (inc. worldwide delivery) Available from Collapse Design

* Oh, oh, oh, I just thought of one. Comic Sans walks into a bar, barman says “we don’t care for your type around here.” Y’know, because everyone hates Comic Sans?

Alphabet by Random Objects

On the minus side, it’s not the whole alphabet, so it’s kind of false advertising, but on the plus side, this typography-loving tee is pretty freakin’ sweet.

101 Robot T-Shirts [Lists]

by Andy on June 19, 2009

100robottees1

With the release of what is almost certain to be the greatest movie of all time today in the UK and across the world over the next week, I thought it would be an excellent opportunity for me to hunt down some robot t-shirts, especially as the previous robot-themed lists have are two of Hide Your Arm’s most popular articles to date. I must admit that I was a total child for the first Transformers live-action movie, even though I realise that in many, many ways it is utterly terrible, but I still smiled throughout the whole thing because it was goddamn awesome. Robots, fighting, and Megan Fox, what more could I possibly want? I’m pretty sure that you could rob my house whilst that film is on TV and I’d only realise you were doing it once you unplugged the Blu-Ray player. I guess you could say I’m a little excited about Revenge of the Fallen being released, which is why I went a little robot crazy and compiled this huge robot tee loving list. Enjoy!

*Update* If you’re in the mood for lists of t-shirts, check out this post: The Ultimate List of T-Shirt Lists!

This post took around 15 hours to compile, if you could take a few seconds to tweet about the post, stumble it, bookmark it on delicious, digg it, possibly even mention it in a blog post, I would be incredibly grateful, not only because it would send more visitors to my site, but also because it would help to support the brands featured, many of whom are pretty small and need all the exposure they can get.

Kern! by Inku at MySoti

by Andy on March 2, 2009

yothatkernistight

I always kind of knew what kerning was, that it had something to do with the space between letters, but I didn’t really get it completely. Then on Friday I tried my hand at designing a corporate logo (it was kind of a slow day at the office), and whilst my results were… incredibly lame, I did finally find out how to change the kerning on some text (I know, that’s how little design knowledge I have). So, now I ‘get’ this tee, so I’m in, I’m in with the type nerds!

When I found out that one of the people who is interning at the same place as me subbed and won at my favourite design competition, Allmightys, I was a little worried that the tee was going to suck, because that could be awkward, but luckily for me, and Percy I guess, his tee is pretty damn cool. I know nothing of type, as you well know, but I like the concept, it’s been well executed, and I like the simple colorway too.

So, just so you know how to guarantee getting on HYA (not that it’s exactly a path to riches), all you have to do is wait for me to travel across the Atlantic to live in a foreign city for 3 months. Simple!

I’ve put the rest of the winners of the Type-Tastic competition into the gallery below, there’s some beauty’s in there, so be sure to check them out.

I don’t really know enough about typography to take a real stab at dissecting this design, but I assume that the lines running around the word ‘type’ are guides that people use when they’re designing new fonts? The design doesn’t really do it for me, but I would assume that I’d have a type-rection right now if I’d played Helvetica: The Movie so many times that I’d managed to wear out the disc.

Ugmonk like things to be calm, but not ugly

by Andy on September 3, 2008

Ugmonk have been posted e-ver-y-where recently with the white tee up there, Lowercase, but let’s not just give attention to the popular kid, it can’t all be Marcia! Marcia! Marcia!, Jeff Sheldon (Ugmonk creator) has put together a great first mini-season, who decided to launch his own brand following after whetting his appetite with design contests.

Here’s a mini-blurb that gives you a decent idea for what Ugmonk is about:

With the market being oversaturated with complex, crazy designs, Ugmonk’s mission is to provide simple yet fresh designs through various products.

Mission accomplished I’d say!

I’ve been getting more and more into type/text tees at the moment, so the Rumplo team must have been reading my mind when they put together a blog post (that also went out in their newsletter) of 30 incredible type tees.

See the rest of them… here.

Hicalorie Loves You by Hicalorie @ Karmaloop
I can’t believe how much of a sucker I am for big prints of Helvetica text which is left aligned. Its like a sickness. I guess there are worse addictions to have…

I’m clearly a sucker for Hicalorie too, and this tee doesn’t even have their usual so-cute-I-might-be-sick graphics on it!
