A couple of new designs from AZIMO

We all know that my hairy and not-particularly-toned shoulders mean that I don’t give tank tops much consideration, but I am really digging that ‘laugh all day’ tee design from this Summer collection from AZIMO.

Every T-shirt in “This is Spinal Tap”

by Andy on August 16, 2012

spinal tap t-shirts

I was watching Spinal Tap with friends a few months ago and couldn’t help but notice that there were an awful lot of t-shirts on show, and since I had so much fun with the Scott Pilgrim t-shirt list I thought I’d give this one a go. It’s hardly surprising considering that tees are the classic rock n’ roll wardrobe staple, but it’s still fun to see interesting tees being worn by characters in a movie, especially when I imagine that quite a lot of them were created specifically for the movie itself.

In spite of the popularity of the film then and now, there are surprisingly few companies out there which have taken the plunge and recreated shirts from the movie, with most seemingly happy to put “it goes to 11″ on a tee and leave it at that. It’s disappointing, but maybe if this post does well some enterprising freelance designers will put their efforts onto a print-on-demand site like Cafepress, Zazzle, or RedBubble so you can snap them up before they get DMCA takedown requests. If they make them, I’ll post them here, but for now we’ll have to make do with merely enjoying looking at the great t-shirts featured in Spinal Tap. Please note that I was taking screen grabs from the DVD version of the film since I don’t know anyone with the Blu-Ray version, but if this post gets enough attention I will happily order a copy of the Blu-Ray so that we can have some extra detail for the images. Also, I would never claim to be a Spinal Tap authority, I’ve seen the film a few times and really like it, but if I make any errors in this post just let me know and I’ll fix it right up.

What is FBD? [Submitted]

FBD is Fresh Baked Daily Clothing where we just simply make dope and sell dope stuff, but on a more serious level we are a brand that represents the endless creativity of the youth today. We believe that everybody should express their creativity and ideals, outwardly…. Our free shipping code is FBDSHIP so come check out the dope stuff in our store.

Andy: Ack, I was impressed with these guys until I went onto their store and all of a sudden music started coming out of the speakers on my PC. I thought people had learned by now that auto-playing music was a no-no when it comes to web design? I can assure you that any store with music that autoplays will perform worse (in terms of sales, time on site, pageviews, etc.) than one that doesn’t. If a shop wants to have music in their online store that’s fine, but make it an option, forcing an experience onto someone online is a very good way of getting them to leave the page. Similarly, having the main site hosted on Wix makes it hard for me to take the brand seriously, and it being all flash will not be good for the brand in terms of SEO. Working on those elements (why spend so much on the product and then present it in anything other than the best way possible?) will really help the brand.

{ 0 comments } summer 2012 collection

Tank tops, tees, and a snapback hat in this Summer release from CX.City, really nice stuff as usual and a lovely lookbook photoshoot to go with it. Tees and tanks are on pricing parity here, with both being $24.95 each.

Tank tops are in at A Better Tomorrow

a better tomorrow tank tops

A Better Tomorrow have taken some of their designs and made them available as tank tops, neat!

dbd clothing

Looks like Death Before Dishonour have stripped things back and are just going with DBD at the moment as I can’t find any reference to the longer version of their name on their site. Not that the name matters too much, we’re all about the clothes at HYA, well, unless they were called something grossly offensive, in which case I would cock an eyebrow and tut in their general direction.

Couple of cool new designs continuing with their recent look at the Buddhist arts, which I would imagine has a lot of promising material for a streetwear company. Tees are £25, as is the vest, the baseball top is £35, and they’re all available right now.

antisparkle neon summer 2012

Do you like bright things? If so, good, because if there’s one word that you can use to describe this ‘Neon Shades’ collection from Antisparkle it is BRIGHT. With a name like that it’s hardly surprising that there’s plenty of neon amongst the tees, tanks and jewelry. The jewelry in particular is a nice addition to their store, I feel as if it rounds things out for them and provides something extra for potential customers.

triangle motif

Triangle Motif got in touch recently to say hello and let me know about their fledgling brand. Usually when people e-mail me they ask for advice, and whilst I’m not here to be a free consultant for brands I do usually find myself repeating the same things to people when they send in a submission, mainly that they need to get better images, explain what makes them special, and don’t pretend to have reinvented the wheel. However, with these guys I can’t see anything that they’re doing wrong, they’ve got some beautiful lookbook images to go with their regular studio product shots, they’re reasonably priced at $25 and they’ve got a nice clean website. That tells me that all they need to do is get their name out there more and they’ll surely gain fans and hopefully propel themselves on to many more collections to come.

aaron andrews apparel

I’m really digging the style to the photography (and video) on this release from Aaron Andrews Apparel. I hadn’t heard of him/them before, so it’s nice to be introduced to them by way of some pictures that show off the designs to their full potential. The tees and the tank top come in at $24.99 each and are available now.

vaughn de heart t-shirt

Quite a compact collection from Vaughn de Heart for the season, consisting of just four pieces, but it’s clear that RoyLyn is trying to cover all the bases with the shirts all being in different colours and styles and also a tank top for those days when it’s just too hot to keep your mighty guns confined to a t-shirt. Personal favourite for me is the heather grey ‘Courageux’ shirt. Shirt prices are $23.95-24.95, the tank top is $22.95 and they’re all available now.

{ 0 comments } spring release

Blurb time!

Definitive menswear brand CX.CITY present their latest offering for Spring 2012, ‘Lost In You Like Saturday Nights’. Tapping international model Bradley Soileau as the focal point of their lookbook, the collection makes use of heavy imagery while conveying a very distinct mood. Balancing bold graphics with Spring colors, this release continues within the simple, vintage aesthetic that the brand has become known for. The collection is now available direct through their online shop, as well as in some select Los Angeles area retailers.

I’m probably being swayed somewhat by the lovely lookbook photos, but there’s nothing in this collection from CX.CITY that I wouldn’t wear, and that’s always a good sign.

hello kitty skull design

I am really digging this, nice work by Joby, hopefully Sanrio won’t come knocking on Blure’s door with a C&D. I wish it was available as a t-shirt and not just a tank top, but that’s just me, Summer is coming and people want to get their arms out.

Two new t-shirts from Camiseteria

by Andy on May 15, 2012

camiseteria bear t-shirt

Instead of lamenting Camiseteria‘s lack of an international ordering system (who wants to e-mail an order in now that it’s 2012?), I’m going to lament the lack of attention that they get in the tee blog world since they put out such lovely t-shirts.
