A blog about hoodies & t-shirts, with news from the independent clothing world

It looks all cool and stuff

Matt, the guy who used to write Torso the blog, and now runs Torso the clothing company, dropped me a line to let me know that the website had undergone a revamp, making it a lot easier to navigate around and generally pretty-fying it. That’s nice, but the ‘print meter’ is waaayyy more interesting:

Torso really is about putting profits back into producing more tees from talented artists, and so we’ve added a “print meter” under our menu that shows people relatively how close we are to having the money available to bring out a new design. It will be updated every day and will directly reflect profit and returns from sales that we can put towards awesome new stuff. Once the white marker is reached you can be sure we will have something on the go that we can hopefully release shortly.

I don’t really know if seeing a meter would encourage me to buy a tee, but I do think its a really cool idea, showing that buying a t-shirt can actually make a difference to a company is what separates small businesses like Torso from the big fish, and this is a great way of visualising that connection.

Sharp Shirter’s snazzy new design!

From the bowels of my inbox (well, technically, quite near the top, but I have rather a large inbox) I found a note from Dan Lachman, the guy behind SharpShirter, letting me know about the new and improved version of his site that he wanted to show off to the world. Well, that was more than a month ago, so the site isn’t really new anymore, but it is still pretty cool. It’s in Flash which makes linking to products awkward/impossible, but it certainly does look good. There’s loads of new goodies available for purchase too, if my laptop was two inches smaller and not covered in stickers I might pick up one of their laptop skins. Click on through and check it out.

Have you seen Johnny Cupcakes new site? Hot damn is it looking sweet, with the custom artwork that pops up on each of the site tabs and the cool pics (even though most of them are recycled from the old site). Apparently there’s going to be a lot of treats coming up over the next few days, and a new wave of designs coming in over time, so keep a look out for those.

I’m just going to give you their blurb for the pullover hoodie (the only hoodie they currently sell) because I’m about to go to watch Newcastle vs Levadia Tallinn (that’s ’soccer’ to most of the readers) and I’m getting a bit tight for time:

Jog! Box! Breakdance! And as my friend Mike Murphy say’s, “”chill out!”". You can do all of those, and MORE! In this comfy Johnny Cupcakes hoodie. *Runs a little tighter and is 100% cotton. I reccomend you get 1 size bigger than your normal size.

Yes, it may be a bit simple, but you gotta loves those cupcakes!
