darth vader holding up the death star on his shoulders

It’s unusual to find a Star Wars concept that hasn’t been done to death, but Chris Kawagiwa seems to have managed it. Cool to see the process of creating the design too.

gaming t-shirts welovefine

It’s hardly surprising that WeLoveFine.com (who I’m still not quite sure what I should call them) are expanding their range of tees about video games. Would I be right in thinking that the gaming industry does more revenue than the movie industry now? That seems unlikely but I’m sure I heard that somewhere, either way, there’s a lot of people that play games every day and there’s a lot of people that wear t-shirts, and there’s a venn diagram somewhere of those two groups that overlaps a lot. Some of the shirts in the new category have been around for a while, but some are new and they will be adding more shirts to the category in the coming weeks.

jem design contest

As a 27 year old guy I’m sure it won’t surprise you to know that I’m not really up on my “80s cartoons aimed at girls that only lasted for 3 seasons” but apparently I am on the wrong side of pop culture in this case, because Mighty Fine/welovefine.com (I don’t really know what I’m meant to call them) are running a JEM t-shirt design competition with a prize of up to $2500 and that suggests to me that quite a lot of people are/were quite excited about the show. One cool aspect of this competition is that they have brought in the original voice of Jem to be a judge. You’ve got until March 23rd to get your entries in and I’ve included all the details after the break.

muppets design contest

To be honest, I’m not sure whether I should be calling these guys WeLoveFine.com, We Love Fine, or Mighty Fine, they seem to use all three fairly interchangeably, but I am sure that they’re producing some of the finest licensed tees right now, so they can call themselves whatever they want as long as they keep up the quality.

Yesterday they launched a couple of big design contests for The Muppets and Steampunk (with total grand prizes of up to $3,000 and $2,000, respectively), and I know that a lot of HYA readers are designers, so I thought I’d pass the information on since that amount of cash will probably be pretty tempting. Submissions are open from now until early in October, after which the voting period begins.
