An average week at Tshirt Laundry

by Andy on May 23, 2013

In many ways, it’s not their fault that I’m unimpressed by the latest releases from Tshirt Laundry, because two of the references are lost on me and that’s going to put me at a disadvantage to enjoying these shirts.

I don’t know who Porr is (other than it is a parody of Thor, that much I got), and Googling doesn’t really help me much, but I do like the artwork on that one.

I’m not far enough into the Walking Dead to know what’s going on here, and I’ve managed to avoid spoilers so far other than knowing that there’s a prison, and my guess would be that this guy is some kind of guard that messes up.

And the Magneto shirt? That one I do understand, but I don’t know why anyone would have the motivation to wear this as a t-shirt. Tees are $14 this week as usual going up next week.

As ever with these competitions from there are quite a lot of winners, so if you like X-MEN then chances are you’ll see something you like above. The Grand Prize winner is ‘United’ the circular crest design at the top of the mockups, and that sends designer Antony Rozwadowski on a trip to Comic-Con in San Diego which is a pretty special prize. It’s interesting looking at all the designs because it shows the restrictions that an official competition bring, as someone that has never read the original comics and has all of his knowledge from the movies the characters sometimes look a bit off to what I’d expect, of course Wolverine doesn’t look like Hugh Jackman, because using Hugh Jackman’s likeness would be another license to deal with. It doesn’t ruin any of the designs, it’s just an interesting insight into the world of licensing in the tee world, one that a lot of tee a day sites probably don’t give a damn about.

Each tee is available now for $25 and you can find the collection here.

x-men design competition

You know what’s nice about doing designs for The contests are always legit, the prizes sizeable, and they attract some impressive brands too. If I were an artist that liked to pop culture designs I’d be subbing to them quite a lot, because making a fun X-Men design is one thing, but making one that is actually licensed and approved by Marvel is another. In this particular contest the Grand Prize winner is going to be sent to San Diego Comic-Con later in the year… that sounds pretty cool.

tshirt laundry sale

Nice deal from Tshirt Laundry this week, IIRC $12 represents a $7 saving on their usual shirt price so it is a decent saving. I think it’s fair to say that the X-Men inspired design is the pick of the new releases this week.

steampunk rogue x-men t-shirt

I promise that I didn’t intend for this to turn into Star Wars weekend on HYA, it just turned out that way when I was looking through the e-mails and spotted quite a few t-shirts I liked. Then again, a lot of HYAs popularity has been built upon a basis of posting Star Wars tees so I’m sure you guys won’t complain, especially since I’ve thrown a few other subjects into the mist over the weekend and in this post (that steampunk Rogue shirt being particularly nice). Unusually for HYA I’ve gone to the effort of linking each picture to the product page (except for the Rogue one due to a quirk in the HYA media process_.

klimt star wars the kiss

Hello, hello, hello and happy Valentine’s Day! I had a great holiday (though my snowboarding inflicted bruises may say different), and then went to see Justice play in Manchester last night, but now it’s back to reality and back to the serious business of t-shirts (and camera accessories at Rigu, of course).

TeeFury have a Star Wars-ified take on Gustav Klimt’s ‘The Kiss’.

Shirt.Woot believe the pen is mightier than the sword (or possibly equal to it).

RIPT have a Game of Thrones t-shirt that looks cool that I don’t understand.

pokemon t-shirt

I stopped updating the Black Friday t-shirt deal list once it hit 109 items and I got a migraine, but please remember that not all those deals were just for Black Friday, a lot of them carry on until today and a few beyond that too.

Not often that you’ll see a Pokemon x Katamari Damacy shirt, but TeeFury have given us a great one today.

Qwertee have a shirt about The Hulk today.

The dance of the blue footed boobie makes a return at Tilteed.

Nowhere Bad have dropped a shirt about National Lampoons Christmas Vacation, of course.

I don’t know if there’s any significance to XYZ on the shirt, but I like the idea of the zip in the Y.

This rather magical tee at Shirt.Woot is also available as a long-sleeve tee.

Swiss Army Wolverine, huh, didn’t see that one coming, RIPT.

Very clever shirt from The Yetee, I wouldn’t call myself a massive fans of the Aliens series, but this concept works really well.

A fairly oblique reference to Futurama from TeeMinus24, but it’s always good to see a Futurama t-shirt.

Very interesting Bowser shirt from 24tee today, good style to it.

TeeRaiders are responsible for our Doctor Who shirt today.

GraphicLab have dropped their latest shirt and it’s a delightful mashup or Scott Pilgrim and Back To The Future.

Very nice musical shirt at Loviu today.

Can anyone enlighten me as to what the Japanese (right?) text says on this Back To The Future tee at Shirt Punch?

Tshirt Contest are parodying Game of Thrones with this bacon flavoured t-shirt.

No new shirt from DBH today, but every tee is $15 for Cyber Monday, I think that’s a pretty good deal!

Kissmetrics take a look at whether having your phone number om your website will increase sales. Hint, it usually does.

Honour Over Glory have released their Autumn/Winter Range, so obviously they had to make a promo video featuring hot girls in the woods.

BustedTees Cyber Monday offering is already down to 20% off.

166 Days have knocked theer shirts down to £9.99 for the week.

Social Fabrik are offering 15% off all their shirts today with the coupon code CYBERMONDAY.

x-men t-shirts

That title is probably a giveaway that this isn’t another epic HYA list that I drive myself crazy writing for several days, made far too long and has many errors in it, that I then flog within an inch of it’s life trying to get other people to blog/tweet/facebook about it. This list is actually enjoyable to read, to me at least, since it clearly doesn’t take itself too seriously and has some fun X-Men t-shirts in it (like the on above, which was photoshopped, then turned into a real t-shirt design).

Check out the full list over at Found Item Clothing’s Blog.

Review: C-Men by Chaunce Clothing

by Andy on January 26, 2008

This review is a bit late in its arrival for two reasons. Firstly, the post service in my area is totally lame (Christmas backlog my tuckus!), and secondly Chaunce took their site offline whilst they prepared for the launch of their second line, which became available yesterday, so make sure you check that out. This tee (and the second one that I’ll be reviewing in Monday), are both from what Chaunce call ‘Drop 1′, much of this first line is still available for sale, but we can look at this review as being an indicator of quality for Chaunce as a whole as well as of the tees.

So, these characters are, shall we say, somewhat familiar? I know what you’re thinking, but these aren’t the X-Men, oh no, these are the C-Men (no snickering at the back of the class!). But this is what Chaunce does, they take American icons and put their own little spin onto things, and use pretty damn nice colourways while they’re at it. I’m not really a comic book kind of guy, but I can appreciate the style of this kind of illustration, it lends itself well to being printed on a t-shirt, and the large “BOOM” printed on the back (check it in the pics at the bottom of the post) was a nice surprise when I took this tee out of the package

In terms of quality, we are looking at a top-notch product. I can’t recognise the stock tee, so it might be custom, wherever it came from I like it, quite thick and weighty, lovely and soft, sleeves about the right length, and the print sits on it real nice. The custom Chaunce tag inside the tee really adds to the product as a whole, as does their little gorilla tag on the sleeve. One thing to note for branding haters (beyond them having their name in the middle of the tee), there is a printed gorilla on the lower back corner of the tee, kinda like what Oddica do with their designs, its pretty unobstrusive and as logo’s go, a gorilla is pretty cool.Costiness=$24.99 Link
