I reaaaaally like this tee, the colourway is awesome, but then again I would say that (hint: look at my logo), and the whole thing is wonderfully retro without makes it too kitsch. The design is by Danny Jones aka YASLY, who is always good value for a quality tee design. Danny is actually responsible for all the designs that are currently available from new brand Regan Smith Clarke, so if you like YASLY, you’ll probably will like RSC.

The e-mail described these tees as being part of an artist series, so it’s a fair bet that we’ll be seeing more collaborations from Johnny Cupcakes in the near-future. They’re both good tees (though I feel that the print on the back of each tee explaining that it’s a collaboration tee is a bit much), and it is nice to see a JC tee that is in a different style for a change since it felt like they were getting a bit too focused on the cartoony aspect recently, although if I had a license to make Warner Bros. tees then I probably would too. Naturally, I find the $40 pricetag of these tees a little high, but price rarely appears to be an issue for the dedicated followers of Johnny.

Go Ape really know how to get ‘names’, don’t they?
I assume that YASLY is well known to most people in design circles, since if I know who he is, then its safe to presume that he’s pretty well known. I guess that him being a ‘name’ shouldn’t be an issue, if a tees good, its good, if a tees bad, its bad, it doesn’t matter who the designer is, although I guess famous artists are more likely to make good tees on a regular basis… I don’t know where I’m going with this… this is a cool tee though.
